“Superman: Legacy” Emblem Revealed?

An interesting photo from the table read that took place in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday has given us a possible look at the Superman emblem for the upcoming film “Superman: Legacy”.

Isabela Merced, who is playing the role of Hawkgirl in the film, posted a photo of her name card on the table from the table read, which features an “S” shield resembling the one seen in the comic book series “Kingdom Come”.

Superman: Legacy Place Card

For those unfamiliar with “Kingdom Come,” the 1996 masterpiece by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, paints a chilling vision of the DC Universe’s future. Decades after the golden age, reckless new heroes, mirroring the villains they fight, leave a trail of destruction. Superman, self-exiled after a devastating tragedy, emerges as a reluctant leader, urging the heroes of old to return and restore order.

With the upcoming movie set earlier in Superman’s career than the story seen in “Kingdom Come” it’s hard to imagine how that story will be influencing “Superman: Legacy”. Will the emblem be used in promoting the film or will it adorn Superman’s costume? Or is it nothing more than a red herring? Time will tell.

Saw an interesting string on reddit about this: “What if Superman: Legacy is a REVERSE Kingdom Come? What if, instead of a jaded, older Superman bringing back traditional values to younger heroes – we get a younger, fresher Superman bringing back traditional values to older, jaded heroes?” “It’s good story telling 101. It’s not what characters do on screen, it’s how other characters react to them.” This makes sense to me, especially with The Authority being included in the cast. And Gunn has already said that his Superman will be a beacon of inspiration and hope. Someone else speculated that… Read more »

I love that idea. It kind of makes a little more sense why they’d go with guy gardner too.

And, I hope they go with the kingdom come S and stick with it. I think it has a great esthetic to it.

This is an epic idea, Clemson Tiger. Whoever wrote this idea on Reddit is awesome. Thanks for sharing it with us. I really love the idea of a younger, fresher Superman bringing back traditional values to older, jaded heroes.

or James gunn is just messing with us and thats not the superman logo at all, why would he let that leak like that ? I think he wants to get a reaction from the fans and I think this will not be the final Superman Symbol, he specifically said this was a younger superman early on in his career. Wouldn’t be anywhere near kingdom come.

Honestly, I hope this “Kingdom Come” S-sheild emblem won’t be the version they use in “Superman: Legacy.” However, I’d be fine with it IF it’s part of a storyline where Superman uses it at first for a trial-run, etc., but then updates the S-sheild emblem to the usual version that most of us know and love.
