“Superman: Legacy” Adds Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho

On the back of yesterday’s news that director James Gunn had added three new actors to the cast of “Superman: Legacy”, today The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Anthony Carrigan (who has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in HBO’s Barry) has been cast as Rex Mason/Metamorpho.

On Instagram, director James Gunn responded to the announcement by saying, “Metamorpho is one of my all-time favorite characters and I’m unbelievably excited by how we’re bringing him to the screen in #SupermanLegacy – and equally excited about working with [Anthony Carrigan].”

Created by writer Bob Haney and artist Ramona Fradon, Metamorpho’s power allows him to transform his body into any element or compound found on the periodic table. This makes him a living, breathing chemical factory capable of altering his physical form at will. His origin story stems from an ill-fated expedition in Egypt, where he was exposed to a mysterious meteorite that granted him his incredible abilities. Despite his unconventional appearance, Metamorpho is a noble hero who uses his powers for the greater good, often teaming up with other superheroes to combat injustice and protect the world from various threats.

Yesterday we found out that Nathan Fillion will portray Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl, while Edi Gathegi will be Mister Terrific.

“Superman: Legacy”, which will star David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.

That’s exciting news. I’ve loved Carrigan in everything I’ve seen him in
