No Origin Story for “Superman: Legacy”

Superman: Legacy

Director James Gunn has confirmed that the upcoming film “Superman: Legacy” will not include an origin story for Superman.

Gunn addressed the issue in a discussion on his Bluesky social media account when replying to a fan’s suggestion that the director include an origin recap in the style of “All-Star Superman”.

“I think we’ve seen his origin enough in film at this time!” replied Gunn, further expanding on his answer by clarifying that we won’t even see any elements of a younger Clark Kent.

“Superman: Legacy”, which will star David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.

I really have to agree with Gunn here. Much like Batman and Spider-Man, Superman’s origin has been told so many times this century we really don’t need to see it every time. If it was the first TV/movie in a long time, sure, but at this point do we need a half hour of Krypton again? I don’t see the need.
