April 19, 2022: Heritage Auctions Sells Original "Superman Annual #11" Art by Dave Gibbons
Heritage Auctions has sold the original artwork from the title page (Page 4) of the 1985 "Superman Annual #11" by Dave Gibbons for US$105,000!A shocking title splash page featuring Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin arriving at the Fortress of Solitude to celebrate Superman's birthday, only to find that he's become mentally (and emotionally) enslaved by the parasitic flora known as the Black Mercy.
Written and illustrated by the creative team behind the critically acclaimed Watchmen (Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons), "For The Man Who Has Everything" is a haunting tale about the agony that comes from losing that which you love the most.
Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of approximately 10" x 15". Irregular trimming with chopped corners, paste-up stat logo, discolored production tape, editorial marks/notes, and light handling wear. In Very Good condition.
The auction ended on April 8, with the winning bid of US$105,000.
