July 20, 2019: Warner Bros. Announce "Superman: Red Son" Animated Movie

During the "Batman: Hush" animated movie screening and panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. announced that 2020 will see the release of two Superman animated films... One of which will be an animated adaptation of the "Superman: Red Son" Elseworlds comic book story.

Written by Mark Millar, the 2003 graphic novel saw baby Kal-El land in mid-1950s Russia instead of Smallville, Kansas, where he grew up to become a Soviet symbol that fights for the preservation of Stalin's brand of communism.

Later in 2020 an animated standalone movie titled "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" will also be released, making this the first time two Superman-centered DC Universe Movies will be released in the same year.

According to the announcement from DC Comics, this film will be a fully original story featuring a young Superman early in his career.

In between Warner Bros. will also release "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War", a follow-up to 2017's "Justice League Dark" animated movie.
