With the Omega Tournament over, Superman gone, and now trouble in Kandor, Supergirl decides to solve what she can at the moment, and travels into the bottled city with the yellow ring of Nor-Kann.

As worried as she is about her cousin, she knows she must find Lesla-Lar first. Traversing the ruined city, Supergirl finds a minion of The Black Flame named Cut who’s terrorizing the good people of Kandor, and a fight ensues between them and a villain named Rust, both of whom are results of Lesla’s super substance, as confirmed by Ryla, a Kandorian saved by Kara.

Supergirl deduces that this might all have something to do with the mutation the Science Council told her about. Of course, those cowards are hiding, but before Kara can take care of them, she hears Lesla calling for her from the Tower of Zonn. Her fears about her friend are sadly confirmed: Lesla is working with The Black Flame, who turns out to be her cousin. Kara tries to get Lesla back on her side, but Lesla is too adrift now to stop working for her cousin, and she steals the ring from Kara, allowing for Black Flame to beat the snot out of Supergirl. Black Flame explains that her anger is mostly at the Science Council for keeping the mutation a secret, while Kara tries to get her to stop fighting her and work together. Black Flame doesn’t care, and after stabbing Kara and confirming she and Lesla will basically take over the city, she drops our hero down into the abyss, while a shadowy figure watches, and Superboy and Lena worry…

To Be Continued…

4Story – 4: An intriguing start for a new arc, one quite darker and more serious than the previous issues of this run! Feels like the angsty season finale to a lighthearted show, so I find that quite interesting! Excited to see how Boy Thunder is utilized too, not to mention Lesla’s arc.

4Art – 4: Campbell does really well in shifting her art style here, into something far more tragic and grotesque.

1Cover Art – 1: Dan Mora, I’m disappointed in you. Generic surprise poses, false advertising, no focus on what the story actually is?? This cover is a lie.

3Variant Cover Art – 3: Nice but not spectacular.

2Variant Cover Art – 2: Not a fan.

5Variant Cover Art – 5: Why is this not the main cover?!

4Variant Cover Art – 4: Cute portrait!

2Variant Cover Art – 2: Stock stuff.

4Variant Cover Art – 4: See, if the Dan Mora cover was a variant, like this one, I’d get it.
