I gotta say….How very Super Friends-ish! Basically the film did feel like a two hour long cartoon. And enjoyed it.

I’m buying it! I think it’s going to be a long time till we see the Justice League on the big screen again unfortunately.

Hrm. I’m not at all the biggest fan of the DCEU but I don’t think having they hyper-campy promo is really gonna help their case for the movie at all. But maybe this is just being done as a one-off bit of humor. Kind of something I have a concern about is that WB learning exactly the wrong lesson from feedback about the films being too dark and instead choose to just swing to the opposite extreme, effectively ping-ponging back and forth between The Dark Knight and Adam West in terms of tone rather than any kind of actual thoughtful… Read more »

Seems like there’s been a few more articles in which ZackS has been a little more revealing regarding what he had done. I think after the JL movie has made it’s run through the sales, we’re going to get a lot more info from Zack. This whole JL movie fiasco, to me, parallels what happened with Superman2. After Donner was let go they brought in Lester to finish things up and correct what changes the Salkind’s wanted. Lester does the exact same thing. He re-shoots many scenes and rearranges quite a bit of tone that Donner had accomplished. He injects… Read more »

You pretty much nailed it – DC/WB wanted to go the way of Marvel camp, even having Barf Whedon rewrite camp dialogue and reshoot campy scenes and the train wreck that was JL is the end result – WB shot themselves in the foot.

Snyder’s version would have been far more well received and just flat out better than Whedon’s.

Given that everything Snyder has done with these characters so far has been, almost universally, panned by critics and fans alike, I have some pretty serious doubts to that claim. It’s funny, you know, after MOS everybody complained,” The costume is too dark”, “oh he made Superman a killer”, “it’s too dark and gritty”, “He’s trying to make it too much like Nolanverse” Then BvS rolls along and it was more of the same, “too dark, too gritty” ” Superman never smiled”, ” He made Batman a murderer”. Then JL happened and they did everything that fans had been asking… Read more »

I guess if you wanted to be analytical a certain way you can. As far as I’m concerned Batman may have killed some criminals that were going to kill him but the word murderer is an excuse people used as a means to convey their personal dislike. Same as Superman and the, “snapping neck”, description. I had said that the Snyder version might not have been all what we exactly wanted but at least there would have been continuity from the first two. The twisted version we got had little to almost no run off from them. And I wouldn’t… Read more »

Can’t disagree with that! Except I don’t think they just shot themselves in the foot. They shot their toes off!

Snyder’s version would very likely have been yet another dour, depressing and de-saturated slog IMO so in that respect I think WB was right to move away from that but had they actually given a damn, they would have taken the extra year (or even two) for correcting course instead of just rushing it out.

Rushed the release so the executives could get their bonuses. Sad really. The die was cast and the damage was done. It would have been interesting to see what it could have / would have / should have been much like the Dinner cut of Superman 2. And yet I understand your POV and respect it. I enjoyed it though. Still better than the failed JLA TV pilot.

I’ll be buying it – it 4k – I have to admit, I really enjoyed it while watching it…and have seen it a few times… the further removed from it, the more upset I am by the wasted potential – but as much as I thought that BvS was a masterpiece, it is not as re-watchable, and my favourite part of JL is how much my kids enjoyed it (especially the Flash and Superman)… I don’t think a Snyder cut would have been a saviour to the DCEU, and may have been divisive, and we may all be lamented another… Read more »

I didn’t mean to imply that a ZS cut would have necessarily been the end all that we had all been waiting for but surely it couldn’t have done worse. And at least there would have been some continuity from Mos and BvS. Beside the lip distraction the way that Superman was handled was ice cold and without hardly any feeling to it. I believe that ZS cut wouldn’t have been so abrupt and over with the way it was manipulated in JossW’s re-shoots. There should have been some great build up to his return, yet it was handled so… Read more »

I hope that this current DCEU film series gets rebooted. The sooner, the better. I think it’s time for a new actor to play the role of Superman. Preferably a Superman who acts like Superman.
