Japanese Superman Manga Series Out Now!

Superman Japan Comic

Japanese publisher Kodansha has teamed up with DC Comics to create a new Superman manga series in which the Man of Steel isn’t battling villains… he’s looking for something good to eat as he samples food at restaurants all over Japan.

Kodansha, best known for publishing manga such as “Attack on Titan” and “The Quintessential Quintuplets”, today released the first issue of their “Superman vs. Meshi” series, available in the “Evening” magazine. Meshi isn’t a person, the word means “meal” in Japanese.

“Superman vs. Meshi” is written by Satoshi Miyakawa (Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu) with art by Kai Kitago.

Japanese fans should visit the Kodansha website for further details.

I’m very interested in this. I think Japanese manga tends to have great stories and show characters in regular, everyday situations. This is great because we will be able to see Superman/Clark Kent doing regular things like eating a bowl of ramen, playing video games or going to the onsen (public bath) which will really showcase his “human” side (reminiscent of that classic scene where Superman & Jimmy Olsen ate hot dogs in “The Men of Tomorrow”).

It does sound interesting. Will there be any antagonists for this story or is it just Superman trying different kinds of foods?
