Melissa Benoist has given fans a first look at the new costume she’ll be wearing in Season 5 of “Supergirl”.
Posting the photo on her Instagram account, Melissa Benoist can be seen in the new skirt-less costume Kara will be wearing in the upcoming new season.
The 5th season of “Supergirl” will premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 9.00pm.
Um….It’s very blue?
Is that a sash in the middle of her belt?
I’ve been thinking about it and if it didn’t have the sash and if the belt were red instead of yellow, or a red belt with a gold belt buckle, it would look better. I just feel that there isn’t enough red in it. It looks like the cape has clamps to hold on to the suit like her cousin’s suit. Not sure how I feel about that.
this has got to be a joke, because that looks absolutely terrible
Honestly, it just looks boring IMO. Seems much like one of those cases of trying too hard compensate for complaints about realism or whatever. Not that you might not be able to pull off a skirtless Supergirl design just like some trunkless Superman costumes can work but even those still feel a bit off balance without that splash of red in the middle. I don’t know. I guess I’ve just never had a big problem accepting most classic superhero costumes on their own terms and have never viewed realism as part of the point. Sometimes it seems like some won’t… Read more »
I was told somewhere, sometime…that the bold symbol on a superheroes costume created a “bullseye” for the bad guy, drawing fire away from the innocent. I’m hoping this new costume is a one-off. The traditional suit is just fine with me. It’s kinda like making vegetable soup…you gotta know when to stop putting things in! And besides, Melissa wears it so well!
Naw….it’s part of the Hollywood deconstruction of men. Comic book female superheros normally had a degree of skin showing. A bit outrageous portrayed in some comics. See..what they’re doing here is what Marvel has been doing for some time regarding female characters. And that’s covering them up with full body suits from neck to toe, much like the “men’s” suits. I know some of you are going to blow this off as nonsense. But I will be willing to bet that when we see the next WonderWoman movie she will be donning a new costume that will follow the exact… Read more »
Why couldn’t they take away the dark stockings and just put the yellow in the S-shield? Maybe bright up the blue and red just a little?
But the pants do look bad. I’m glad people like them, but they are not for me.
This new outfit looks good. But I think the clamps need to go. (Same to Superman and Mon-El) Also I wish they would brighten the colors and add yellow background for the S on her chest.
Too blue, not enough red. Exact same problem they had with “rebirth” Superman’s costume in my book.
I want to like it, but no. As stated, the cape buckles are a major issue (as it was with Mon-El and Clark’s). It. just. doesn’t. look. good!! I’d even accept the cape attached to the S like with Red Daughter’s (wouldn’t love it, but it’s better than those stupid buckles). What yutz is thinking these things look good on anyone but Thor? And if that IS a sash, which I’m hoping it’s not and it’s just the way it shows in the shot, and it’s there to avoid looking “there”… then that is an EXTREMELY POOR design choice. And… Read more »
I might be in the minority on this one, but I actually like it quite a bit. I liked the other costume, too. My only gripe is that the background of the S-Shield is still blue. Was hoping they’d finally switch to yellow so it’d stand out. And she has bangs now, which also looks good on her.
Speaking strictly in the sense of character visual design I don’t think the bangs haircut is helping that costume either. Something about it changes her whole face to me.
Just give me a Superman Show already! She dresses like Superman, has all his powers, is a mild mannered reporter that wears glasses and works at a news organization, and she fights all of Superman’s villains! Supergirl instead of Superman, Batwoman, Gotham, and Pennyworth instead of Batman. I sort of understand why they won’t give us a Batman show because of the upcoming movie, although I think that’s a mistake, but WB isn’t doing anything with Superman! I thought for sure when they introduced Lois last year that we would finally be getting a Superman Show, maybe even one with… Read more »
Yes! Give us a Superman show CW! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Supergirl’s show, but come on CW. Please. You have a good actor playing Superman. Tyler does a good job in the role. Although personally I’d prefer Routh be given a Superman series. I’m sure that they could just write off the Atom on Legends so that Brandon could Star as Superman in a tv series in a separate universe. But Tyler does a great job too, so I would be very happy with a Superman series with Tyler as Superman. But please, please CW, give us… Read more »
Sadly (and I will be happy to be wrong) I think Clark is basically guaranteed to be killed off in the COIE event, swapping places with Supergirl in the comics version. It will give them a dramatic character death while also relieving them of ever having to worry about the possibility of him over shadowing Kara or ever having to explain where he is and why he didn’t help out when the whole world was in danger. Again, I hope I am wrong. When they first introduced Tyler as Superman I thought they did a great job but then mucked… Read more »
I so hope that’s not the case MattComics. It would be a cryin shame if they did that to Tyler’s Superman. Plus another death of Superman story? I don’t think anyone would want that.
You do realize that if that were to happen we would be subjected to the same soap opera of events that this show has dissolved into. Being a weekly series it would have to follow suit. There are budget constraints on all the CW”s shows and adding another show such as this would surly water down his entire profile. The show would have no choice but to adapt the same formula of characters and their non stop personal relationships and other side tracked, distracting non Superman plot stories. Leave him to the big screen where his character will be treated… Read more »
I disagree redcape. Superman belongs in every genre. His showing up only boosts viewers. Give us a Superman show, and the CW’s ratings will in a word soar. Like Superman.
Call me an optimist, but that’s just how I see it.
Well I commend you for your optimism!
Thank you
They could do a tv show, but it most certainly should not be the CW. A premium channel like HBO, Showtime, or streaming service like Netflix that could give it the proper budget and cut out the filler with 8-10 episode seasons is how it should be done. Superman wouldn’t find the success he deserves on the CW. It would just be another middling tv show on a middling network that never comes close to reaching the character’s full potential.
I’m not a fan of the idea of a streaming service for Superman , but I am open to the idea of Sfyfi or HBO for his show as an alternative to the CW.
It’s very… “Cavell-ish”
Yep. Exactly my thoughts.
Love that she’s getting a new suit, but not a fan of the bangs or the missing briefs that traditionally go with this type of Supergirl suit. I know most people aren’t a fan of the briefs on Superman, but it helps break all the blue, and I really miss that classic look. On the bright side, it’s hard to tell, but it seems like they added yellow to the shield?
Supergirl has only had a full bodysuit 4 or 5 times and has never had briefs that go over it.
She did in the new 52’s.
She didn’t have a full body suit in new52, her legs are bare and she didn’t have briefs, she had a red patch over her crotch it does not go around like briefs it’s just red in the front.
So, here’s my take on the whole thing. First of all, this is not the greatest picture of all time. When the official picture is no doubt released, we should be able to get a better look at it. That being said, there’s still a bunch of stuff we can take from this. I’ll start from the top and work my way down: So, the cape attachments. Personally, I actually really like this style of attaching the cape to the costume. I like it on Superman’s suit, and I like it here; especially since they’re gold which stand out nicely.… Read more »
I’m not to thrilled with how the new suit looks, however you do make a good point. There hasn’t been any footage of how it looks in action yet. So I’ll be fair and give it a chance.
The only thing I don’t like that started with the new 52 Supergirl I think is the Stripper boots she now wears in the tv show and comics.
it looked better with the new52 because she had, basically one of those baby onesies with bare legs
Kinda looks a wee too familiar to the REBIRTH Superman costume in the comics. Other than that, it’s an okay suit for the character.
At least it’s not as WOKE as the show has become. ;p
