Batman and Superman meet together at Arkham Asylum where they learn that Solomon Grundy is going to explode with a huge burst of radioactive energy. They agree to take him to Slaughter Swamp so that his energy can dissipate safely. They must defend him from mercenaries who are focused on stealing him as a weapon of mass destruction. All of this occurs during the worst blizzard to hit the East Coast in years. They are confronted by Deadline and his band of mercenaries. The battle draws the group closer to Slaughter Swamp. After the villains are defeated Superman carries Grundy to the swamp and they meet Swamp Thing who wants to take Grundy into the green and pontificates that a peaceful death will alter how Grundy wakes up. The issue ends with Superman and Batman discussing the exhausting nature of their fight against crime but reaffirming their commitment to help each other.

"The World of Tomorrow"/"The World of the Knight"

This comic is designed to look like a double feature movie, and the audience is told that they can read each story to the end independently or together. Superman in "The World of Tomorrow" Metropolis is witnessing the unveiling of a brand-new power source called the "Omni-Battery". Before its inventor is introduced the Unknown Wizard attacks claiming he deserves the credit. Superman quickly dispatches of the Unknown Wizard allowing Lois Lane to uncover that he was none other than Lex Luthor. Superman must then defeat Luthor's robots. Meanwhile Luthor is raving that the inventor has been stealing his ideas for awhile, and we are introduced to the inventor, Dr. Martha Wayne, and her cowardice son Bruce Wayne. Later at the Daily Planet Clark Kent uncovers that the Waynes are a billionaire family from Gotham City, Thomas Wayne was brutally murdered in front of Martha and young Bruce, leaving him traumatized and her dedicating her life for good. Lois, Clark, and Jimmy travel to Gotham to visit the Wayne estate. While there Lois discovers the Batcave but is caught by Alfred. When Superman arrives to help her, Alfred takes what looks like the Bane venom. Meanwhile a hole rips through the film borders of the strip causing Lois to fall into the Batman story. Batman and Robin in "The World of the Knight" A cafeteria service truck is shown leaving Arkham Asylum, the driver asks the gate keeper to buzz them out. It is revealed that the truck is filled with villains, including Joker, Penguin, and Spider Lady the queen of the Metropolis underworld. They kill the gate keeper and flee. The Batmobile quickly pursues them, and Batman and Robin disable the villains, allowing them to be returned to Arkham. During the fight Spider Lady reveals to Batman that a secret organization, which the Warden of Arkham is a part of, is doing terrible things to the inmates of Arkham and they are turning the world darker. She escapes before going into custody, but the other villains are shown in their cells where one, named Jones, comments that they are better off then their twins in Cellblock B. Those twins in Cellblock B are shown with massive purple boils bursting from their skin. Batman decides to visit the Warden's office where they find Kal El's rocket with his dead infant body still entombed. The Warden discovers Batman and Robin, and they beat a hasty retreat. At the Batcave they learn the story of the rocket landing in a farmer's field in Kansas. They also learn that the Warden has been making regular flights to a specific spot in the Arctic. Batman and Robin infiltrate a hidden base in the Arctic where they discover Lois falling from the Superman story. Batman refers to her as the Spider Lady. The last page shows Batman and Superman on Earth 0 checking a satellite covered by film. They are then confronted by alien beings who accuse them of trespassing on the archive of worlds.

Batman and Superman of Earth-0 are still investigating the satellite. The Archivist reveals himself and then the story shifts back to the meeting of Superman and Batman that began in the previous issue. Bruce, Clark, Lois, and Dick are quickly drawn together and attacked. They decide to look into the Spider-Lady, who is revealed to be Batman's earth's version of Lois Lane, the only survivor of a bombing at the Daily Planet. Superman, Lois, and Lois uncover the thinness of realities, so Superman uses his heat vision to burn through reality and they are confronted by the Archivist. The Archivist wants to create one perfect universe and will destroy all others to create it.

Earth Zero Batman removes the Kryptonite from Superman as they confront Auteur.IO. As they move to attack him the comic shifts to the alternate versions of Superman and Batman investigating the cavern under Wayne Manor in Superman's reality. While there Jimmy finds Lex Luthor and they uncover a startling secret about the relationship between Superman's Martha Wayne and Dr. Atom from Batman's Gotham City. Superman, Batman, Jimmy, and Lois escape from Wayne Manor and track down the meeting point between Martha and a man from Batman's world. In the fight Martha gives her Bruce a super formula to make him as strong as Superman. Dr. Atom takes Superman and Batman through a rift in reality where they can see Earth Zero.

Earth-0 Batman and Superman are facing off against Auteur.IO. The villain has unleashed a Phantom Zone Crystal and the two heroes are sucked in. Superman, Batman, Robin, and Dr. Atom from alternative realities witness the capture of the Earth-0 heroes. Dr. Atom leads an attack against Auteur.IO, the attack is futile, and Dr. Atom detonates. The detonation damages Dr. Atom forcing him to flee from the heroes. They track him down first to an alternative Rann, and then to the old west. Each time they must face him and defeat him. They are able to get his armour off of him in the old west. Underneath the armour is an old god of tale that has been forgotten, he is being controlled by the armour to create a perfect world. Before they can fully save the old god, the armour returns and whisks him off again.

Superman and Batman are still in the wild west when Auteur.IO flees to another world. The ground opens up and Superman must rescue the heroes, Batman, Superman, Robin, El Diablo, and the girl from Rann. Auteur.IO unleashes Etrigan and the Demon Horde of Apocalypse on Superman's Metropolis. It is revealed that this is how he destroys unfit worlds. Superman, Batman, and Robin reach Metropolis and must stop the Demon Horde. Lois Lane discovers that Etrigan uses one of the world's weapons against it. Etrigan arrives at the Fortress of Solitude and decides to use an army of Super robots to destroy everything.

Batman, Robin, and Superman must defeat an army of Superman's robots. Meanwhile the worlds of Rann and the Old West are being destroyed. The trio defeat the robots and enter the Fortress of Solitude. They then confront Etrigan on their way to attacking Auteur.IO. Their attack allows Earth-0 Superman and Batman to be freed from the crystal they were trapped in. Together they are then able to defeat Auteur.IO by controlling his armor and freeing the being inside.

"Batman and Robin: The World of Tomorrow"/"Superman in the World of the Knight"

Batman and Robin are in the world of tomorrow to track down their version of Bruce Wayne who was transformed into a Bizzaro Two Face and is currently escaped from Blackgate Penitentiary. Batman and Superman agreed that Batman's detective skills with sadistic super villains would be most useful in this case. Batman poses as a security guard at Arkham to watch over Martha Wayne, it is no use as Bruce shows up and kidnaps her. Batman and Robin follow Bruce downtown where Gordon opens fire on the monster causing an explosion. This leads to Batman and Robin losing the trail. Batman deduces that Bruce will go to Crime Alley and might kill Martha. Bruce and Martha do arrive at Crime Alley and are confronted by Batman who gives Bruce a coin to help him choose to kill Martha or not. The coin comes up to kill Martha, but Bruce is part Bizzaro and part Two Face, so he chooses the opposite. In the confusion Robin slips the power dampener around Bruce's neck. With Martha and Bruce back in their respective prisons Batman and Robin head back home but are attacked by an Alfred Doomsday./With Batman in the World of Tomorrow, Superman is in the World of the Knight to protect it. The Luthor of this world takes over the brain of his Luthor and then Metropolis. It becomes Superman's job to destroy an Omni-Battery that is powering Luthor's conquest, so that he can save the city. He heads to Metropolis and is beset upon by a horde of Man-Bats, then Poison Ivy. Afterwards he must face a Two Face/Metallo hybrid, before reaching the Omni-Battery. It is revealed that the battery is a human that easily defeats Superman. All of these obstacles to Superman are being mind controlled by Luthor, and he is speaking to Superman through them. Superman is rescued by the Spider Syndicate, led by Lois Lane (Spider Lady) and Bibbo. They also have the batteries family. Superman takes the family to the Omni-Battery where they are able to break Luthor's mind control, allowing Superman to save the day. Superman takes the Spider Lady to a place in between dimensions to speak in private. He rescues Batman and Robin from Doomsday Alfred, and then makes out with Spider Lady while Batman looks upon statues of Martha and Thomas Wayne.

"Little Boxes"

While in prison Calendarman is visited by Mr. Mxyzptlk. Mxy gives him infinite powers, consisting of being able to see outside of his current panel box. He uses it to protect himself from some thugs, and then to learn Batman's identity. He takes this information to his crew, who all laugh at him causing him to blind them with a broken beer bottle. He then sets his sights on Superman and Batman to earn a second surprise that Mxy had promised him. Inspite of his best panel hopping efforts, the World's Finest defeats him causing Mxy to blame the readers. Such a fun read.
