Which has been the best Superman cartoon/animated series of all time?
With over 40% of the votes, “Superman: The Animated Series” was the most popular choice. It is interesting to note that the oldest series, the Fleischer Superman animated shorts, came in at second place.

I was only a little kid (around 8 years old) when the Ruby Spears “Superman” animated series came out. I can only remember a few episodes because I wasn’t allowed to watch them due to the fact that I kept falling in sleep in church and I couldn’t remember what the pastor said during each sermon (my punishment for falling asleep in church & not remember what the pastor said was NO Superman or other superhero TV stuff). However, I vividly “Superman The Animated Series” because by that time I was a teenager who purchased my own TV. So I… Read more »
I voted for STAS, naturally. Justice League was the better show and some of animated Superman’s best moments are in that show, but it wasn’t Superman’s series. Obviously, the Fleischer shorts deserve a ton of credit as well, they’re not only still unique, not only do they still hold up, but they are pretty much responsible for the DCAU, BTAS and, by extension, STAS and JL.
Also, a nod to Legion of Superheroes, which wasn’t a Superman show either, but had a couple of pretty strong Superman episodes.
This was a really tough choice, but I voted for the Ruby Spears Superman series. It was the first animated Superman series that I saw as a child. I’m also a big fan of the Superman animated series as well as the Fleischer series. If I remember correctly, the Fleischer series was nominated for an Academy award. I also like all of the other Superman animated cartoons as well. They all were excellent shows. I just wish that there was an all of the above option. 🙂
STAS, Fleischer, and Ruby Spears are my top 3. Though I didn’t like how it ended I thought STAS was a good compromise between Pre and Post Crisis versions of the character while bringing a lot of it’s own thing.
There’s a lot I like about Justice League but I don’t enjoy how he was written in the beginning or when it transitioned to Unlimited. I think if Paul Dini had stayed around Superman would likely have been handled better and there would maybe have been a little less Bat-bias overall.
