EPISODE SYNOPSES:
- EXILE
Under the influence of red kryptonite, Clark is following a life of crime in Metropolis while his friends and parents desperately try to find him. Lex is forced to confront his personal demons on a desert island, while Lionel holds a funeral for his presumed-dead son. And Jonathan Kent must pay a high price for the power necessary to bring his son back home. - PHOENIX
After Clark's Kryptonian father (voice of TERENCE STAMP - "Superman II") grants him temporary superpowers, Jonathan engages Clark in a destructive battle atop the LuthorCorp building. Jonathan is determined to counteract the mind-altering red Kryptonite ring and bring Clark home. Meanwhile, Lex returns from a deserted island and tries to figure out whether it was Lionel or Helen (recurring guest star EMMANUELLE VAUGIER) who arranged his plane crash. - EXTINCTION
Clark discovers that someone is hunting people who have been affected by the meteor rocks--and the killer's next target is Lex. Clark uses his powers to save Lex but is caught off guard when the killer learns his weakness and shoots him with a kryptonite bullet. Meanwhile, Lex returns to work for LuthorCorp, but the animosity between him and his father continues unabated. - SLUMBER
Clark dreams that he is being pursued by a frightened young girl who needs his help. However, after he discovers she is actually the apparition of a comatose neighbor who should have woken up years ago, he enlists Lana's help to uncover the truth--which puts Lana in grave danger. Meanwhile, Lionel demands that Lex undergo a full psychological evaluation before Lex can return to LuthorCorp.
All songs in the episode are by the rock band R.E.M. - PERRY
Perry White (MICHAEL McKEAN - "A Mighty Wind," "Best in Show," real-life husband of series star ANNETTE O'TOOLE), a once-promising journalist whose career was destroyed by Lionel Luthor, arrives in Smallville in search of alien stories for a tabloid news show. Although he is constantly inebriated, Perry believes he has witnessed Clark using his extraordinary speed, so he devises a dangerous scheme to expose Clark's superpowers. Meanwhile, Lex learns that Perry has powerful incriminating evidence of Lionel's past wrongdoings. - RELIC
Lana's great-uncle, Dexter McCallum (TOM HEATON), who was convicted of murdering his wife 40 years ago, shows Lana a picture of the man he believes really killed her great-aunt--and she is shocked to notice that the drifter looks exactly like Clark. Convinced that the man was his Kryptonian father, Clark investigates and finds a Kryptonian medallion that allows him to see bits of the past--and the life that was planned for him long before he arrived on Earth. In flashbacks, series star KRISTIN KREUK plays a dual role as Lana's aunt, Louise McCallum, and series star TOM WELLING plays a dual role as Clark's Kryptonian father, Jor-El. - MAGNETIC
Clark is suspicious when Lana suddenly becomes attracted to a fellow student, Seth Nelson (KEVIN ZEGERS), and begins to act rebelliously, which eventually lands her in jail. Clark's fears are confirmed when he discovers that Lana's new boyfriend has magnetic powers that can move objects and alter human emotions. However, when Clark attempts to free Lana from the paranormal control, she tries to kill him. Meanwhile, Lex discovers that Chloe has been delving into Lionel's past and asks her to join forces with him against his dad. Singer/songwriter JOSH KELLEY performs. - SHATTERED
Lex locates Morgan Edge who has undergone facial reconstruction--and gets him to admit to criminal dealings with Lionel. But before Lex can report his knowledge to the authorities, someone tries to kill him at the mansion. After barely surviving, Lex flees and asks Clark for help. However, when Clark returns to the mansion to investigate, he finds nothing amiss. He begins to wonder if what Lex described really happened, especially after Lionel discloses that Lex has had a psychotic breakdown and must be institutionalized. - ASYLUM
Lex languishes in the sterile confines of Belle Reve Sanitarium, where his father has placed him. Scheming to escape and prove his sanity, Lex gets involved with three inmates who are also vengeful former residents of Smallville: murderous Van McNulty (JESSE METCALFE); Eric Summers (SHAWN ASHMORE), who once temporarily gained Clark's powers; and Ian Randall (JONATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS), who can physically split himself into two people. Meanwhile, Clark tries desperately to help Lex, who now knows Clark's secret identity. And Lana begins the painful recovery process after being trampled by a horse. She finds a kindred spirit in a determined fellow patient, Adam (IAN SOMERHALDER). - WHISPER
While attempting to stop a robbery, Clark shoots a burst of heat vision that is accidentally reflected back into his eyes by a piece of Kryptonite, causing temporary blindness. He soon discovers that his body has developed extremely sensitive hearing to compensate for his vision loss. But as with all of his other gifts, Clark doesn't quite know how to control the new power at first. - DELETE
Clark and Lana each try to kill Chloe for unknown reasons after they receive a mysterious e-mail from the Summerholt Institute. Clark must discover the source of these e-mails after Chloe reveals she has uncovered proof that the laboratory is involved in mind-control research--and someone wants to prevent her from writing an exposé. Meanwhile, Lana rents the apartment above The Talon to Adam (IAN SOMERHALDER), even though she feels he is hiding something dangerous about his past. - HEREAFTER
Clark discovers that his schoolmate Jordan (JOSEPH CROSS) can foresee the future, and he is horrified when Jordan predicts that Lana will die in a fire in the next few days. Meanwhile, suspicious of Adam's (IAN SOMERHALDER) behavior, Chloe investigates his background and finds some disturbing facts. - VELOCITY
After Pete defies corrupt street-racing promoters who want him to purposely lose, the thugs that run the illegal events threaten his life. Pete asks Clark to use his powers to stop them. Furious that Pete would put him in this position, Clark must figure out a way to save Pete and still protect his own secret. Meanwhile, Jonathan begins to suffer the consequences of his deal with Clark's biological father. - OBSESSION
Clark is forced to use his powers within sight of Alicia (SARAH CARTER) a new girl at school, but he is surprised to find out she has powers of her own. The two develop a bond through their shared secret, but the situation gets ugly after Alicia becomes obsessive about having to share Clark with anyone else--especially Lana. Meanwhile, Lana asks Lex to investigate Adam (IAN SOMERHALDER). - RESURRECTION
While his father is awaiting surgery, Clark befriends a young boy, Garrett (JAMES KIRK), whose brother Vince (TAHMOH PENIKETT) dies from liver failure. However, everyone is shocked when Vince shows up at the hospital, alive and seemingly well--until his liver starts failing again. In a desperate attempt to keep his brother alive, Garrett straps a meteor-rock bomb to himself and demands that Vince be given Jonathan's liver. - CRISIS
Clark receives a panicked call from Lana and hears a gunshot before the line goes dead--but when he finds her, he is stunned to discover she is alive and well. After investigating with Chloe and Pete, Clark realizes that the events he heard have not happened yet, and Adam (IAN SOMERHALDER) is the person who will shoot Lana the following day. When Lex takes Clark to the LuthorCorp laboratory, they find all of the staff murdered, and Lex suspects his father is responsible. - LEGACY
When Jonathan acts strangely, Clark believes that his Kryptonian father, Jor-El (voice of TERENCE STAMP - "Superman II"), is sending Jonathan messages and is the cause for his father's withdrawal from the family. Clark goes down to the caves to confront his biological father, but Lionel finds Clark there and begins putting the pieces together--leading him straight to reclusive scientist Dr. Virgil Swann (CHRISTOPHER REEVE), who knows Clark's origins. As the two billionaires face off, a deal is struck, and Lionel's true motives are revealed. - TRUTH
When Chloe accidentally inhales a mysterious gas, she discovers that it gives her the ability to get the truth from anyone who comes in contact with her--and she goes to the Kents to find out Clark's secret. However, her new power is not without its consequences, and Clark must find an antidote before she discovers too much about him or, worse, dies. - MEMORIA
To regain key information about his father's past that he lost when his memory was erased, Lex joins an experimental program headed by Dr. Garner (MARTIN CUMMINS). Knowing that Lex will also remember the secret of Clark's powers if he regains his memory, Clark tries to stop him--but Lionel and Garner capture Clark and expose him to the same radical treatment, hoping to reveal his mystery. - TALISMAN
When a Kawatche man, Jeremiah Holdsclaw (NATHANIEL ARCAND - "The Lone Ranger"), steals a mythical knife from the caves, he is bestowed with superpowers similar to Clark's and comes to believe he is the savior Naman, "the man who fell from the stars." Clark learns the Kawatche legend that the knife can kill Naman's greatest enemy and sets out to reclaim the weapon before Jeremiah can use it on Lionel to fulfill the ancient prophecy. Series star JOHN SCHNEIDER directed the episode. - FORSAKEN
Clark decides to tell Lana his secret so they can finally be together. Meanwhile, a rogue FBI agent kidnaps and tortures Pete to force him to reveal Clark's secret. Lex panics after the FBI gives him 24 hours to divulge information on his father or face jail time--but help arrives from an unexpected source. - COVENANT
Kara (ADRIANNE PALICKI), a beautiful girl who possesses superpowers and claims to be from the planet Krypton, tries to entice Clark to fulfill his destiny. Overwhelmed, Clark turns to his parents for advice but is shocked when Kara forces Jonathan to finally reveal the deal he made with Clark's biological father. Also, Clark makes a discovery that ultimately redefines his relationship with Lex, and Clark's relationship with Lana reaches a new stage. Meanwhile, the FBI investigation triggers the latest battle between Lex and Lionel.
