Will Tom Welling Appear in Season 8 of “Arrow”?

You may have seen reports circulating around the internet over the past week that Tom Welling is rumored to be appearing in the eighth and final season of “Arrow” on The CW. During a panel held on Saturday, April 13 at Armageddon Expo in New Zealand, Welling is reported to have said, “I will be on Arrow next season.”

The claim was posted on Twitter, and media sites all over the internet posted the news on face value. The Superman Homepage contacted the organisers of Armageddon Expo to find out what was really said. When we asked if Tom Welling had indeed told those in attendance that he would be appearing on Arrow during his panel, we were told that Welling said it in jest, and was not serious. “He was joking,” a representative of Armageddon Expo told us.

While Tom played Clark Kent in ten seasons of “Smallville”, he reportedly turned down an offer to play Superman on The CW’s “Supergirl” a few seasons ago.

I hope that this will happen. Tom is a good actor. I don’t know if he would play Superman again. If he does, great! I’m a huge fan of the Smallville version of Superman. I’m not sure if he will though. Most likely he might play a different character. I heard rumors that he might play Batman. But I’m not sure if he would play that part though. It is possible for him to play Superman again since Arrow is of a different universe than Supergirl. And the Flash and Arrow as far as I know, don’t have a Superman… Read more »

I for one don’t really associate Welling as being Superman. What we saw of him as Superman after 10 years was really a CW cop out. Routh got, IMO, treated badly after SR. SO I would think he’d blow that off as well. Cain is just too far outside of him being able to play that role again. Besides getting into super shape at a certain age can be a real challenge. As far as Arrow. They’ve ruined the show. It was supposed to be about the evolution of the Green Arrow but they’ve driven that concept off a cliff… Read more »

Well if we are talking about if he was ever called Superman, wore the suit,and had that title of Superman during the duration of the series, then no he wasn’t Superman you are right. However, one could argue that he did act like Superman, and did wear the house of El insignia on his chest as Superman should. As to whether or not the CW would make an episode where Routh was Superman again, anything is possible. They might consider it at some point. Who knows?

With the CW….your right. With what they’ve done regarding story lines on all their shows I suppose anything goes as well. I would assume at some point Supergirl will have TylerH back in costume.

That was interesting. Roth got a bum wrap. While Tom did wear certain items that had the insignia(towards the end) they went really out of their way to subdue any outward Superman cues. Except they lifted about all previous Superman story lines and manipulated them to fit Smallville’s. They’re doing it again on Supergirl. As for Cain…I don’t know. I see him occasionally on TV and he’s a bit long in the tooth(all the way around) to don the costume. Well I guess it’s really up to the people who run the CW network on what they want to do with Superman on tv. I guess it’s just a matter of wait and see what they have planned. Whether if’s to bring in all these actors together as their versions of Superman, or not is up to them. As for Arrow…. I really don’t follow it. I disagree with redcape. He has always been a Tom Welling hater. I bet he treats Allison Mack with respect and she is a human trafficker & sexual predator. Tom Welling was Superman towards the end. The reason I’m not too crazy about this site because this site bashes Tom Welling for almost 2 decades. Damn if he does, damned if he doesn’t with you haters. Hi Flo Rida2k13. I think you are being too harsh on those of us who were severely disappointed that Tom Welling never really donned the Superman uniform. After 10 years of seeing other heroes actually wearing their uniforms, being called their hero names and seeing others fly, it was a huge disappointment for many of us who didn’t get to see Tom Welling do the same thing. Now wait a minute Flo. I HAVE NEVER BEEN A WELLING HATER! I spent 10 years of my life every week NEVER missing ONE episode of Smallville. Clark Kent’s obvious association with Superman was the reason I watched it! But the show was about Clark Kent NOT Superman and they made that point over and over. Just to reiterate what everyone else is saying, I’m not a welling hater at all and I watched every episode of Smallville as well, but yes I did feel cheated at the end. If that was his decision, so be it, I Can live with it, but I won’t lie and say I wasn’t disappointed when we got everyone else in costume and only got a shirt rip and cgi for Clark. I didn’t need a whole episode devoted to him in the costume, but it would have been nice to have him in it for at least the final… Read more »

There was a glimpse of the Smallville Green Arrow during the crossover. I mean, it’s possible he could show up. Highly unlikely, but possible.

True. Anything is possible JasEl. There is the multiverse. So it could happen. I’ve always liked Tom’s portrayal of Superman. I would definitely like to see Tom as Superman for the crossover event. I can say the same for Brandon. I really liked both of their versions. They both reminded me of Reeve in their own way(Reeve is my favorite Superman actor).I feel that they should at least try to get these two to play Superman in a crossover event at some point. I’ve always got the impression that he doesn’t really want to be associated with the character anymore and that’s cool, to each their own. While it would be cool to have him come back, it’s not imperative. The reports I’ve always seen were that he didn’t want to wear the outfit and again, that’s fine, I’m not bashing on the guy, I enjoyed his portrayal of Clark, but if he wants to move on from it, I don’t understand why he would even joke around about it.
