Late last month Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment announced that an all-new live-action series titled “Metropolis” would be streaming on the DC-branded digital service in 2019.
According to Omega Underground “Metropolis” will beginning filming in New York City from June to December 2018.
“Metropolis”, which has received a direct-to-series order for a first season of 13 episodes, is set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman. The series follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.
John Stephens (Gotham, Gossip Girl, The O.C., Gilmore Girls) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, Nikita, CSI series) are the executive producers of “Metropolis”. Danny Cannon will direct the first episode, from a teleplay by John Stephens, with story by Cannon and Stephens. Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC, “Metropolis” is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
“Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.”
Except of course for the one they built Metropolis for in the first place and is the main reason it means anything.
Yeah I’m getting really tired of them trying to get away with not showing Superman in anything or really subduing what makes him superman. Captain America proved that there’s an audience for these types of characters, they just need good writing for them. All this is going to get from me for now is an emphatic eye roll. Ps… they did this paranormal investigation stuff with Superman characters in the last two seasons of Superboy, so this is not even like an original idea. If it has to exclude Superman, I’d much rather see a show about lexs rise to… Read more »
New York City is a good place to film this series. I think if they want to get an authentic city feel for Metropolis, then they have to film it in an authentic city. It’s a good choice.
Ironically, NYC is called…uh…Gotham? But yet, Metropolis has that NYC feel. After all, a certain Superman film…or two…had some scenes shot in NYC…notably the former home of the NY Daily News and to link Supergirl the TV show in this…the home since 1948 of CW flagship WPIX channel 11. Remember the scene with that globe?
Fun fact, Christopher Reeve was in the music video to the original Ghostbusters movie which was filmed in NY City.
Really? I just watched it, couldn’t see him.
It’s actually from Ghostbusters 2 and the video is Bobby Brown’s ‘on our own’
Yeah, I mixed up the two movies . Lol.
Understandable! It’s only been like 30 some years haha
Was Reeve friends with any of the cast from Ghostbusters? If he was, I think that would explain his apearance in the music video.
Will Metropolis be connected to any currently running shows or movies, or is it in separate continuity all on its own?
Am I not paying attention to you Lex?
Sorry Lex, I can’t talk to you right now.
I am wondering who they will pick for the roles of Lois, and Lex. I’m still getting the impression that it will be similar to the X-files.
As another poster said there was as very similar premise with Lana and Clark in the last seasons of the Superboy tv series that actually predated the X-Files. It was kind of an interesting way of getting the investigative reporter vibe without being able to just do Clark and Lois at the Daily Planet. I wouldn’t entirely mind a spin on Lois and Clark as investigators of the paranormal being incorporated into their functions as reporters. Maybe they’re both kind of starting out as reporters and they’re stuck with being on a wall of weird type beat that nobody takes… Read more »
Did Lois and Clark: the new adventures of Superman come out around the same time as the X-Files?
I really can’t talk to you right now Lex.
Do you not like the Ghostbusters movies because you’re not in those films Lex? Negative vote for, well you know it’s for yes.
Sorry Steve. I was mistaken about which movie. Christopher Reeve did appear in a Ghostbusters music video, however it was for the sequel Ghostbusters two. He was in a music video called on our own by Bobby Brown. He was on a bicycle.
