“Krypton” Cancelled

Syfy has decided not to pickup “Krypton” for a third season.

While the TV series received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, the ratings weren’t were the network needed them to be, down about 50% in Live+Same Day for the second season.

There’s speculation that Warner Horizon are looking at alternatives, with the possibility of having the series move to the DC Universe digital streaming service.

The Lobo spinoff series has also been cancelled on the back of this announcement.

Actor Cameron Cuffe, who played the lead role of Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, took to Twitter to say, “What I feel above all is gratitude.  I spent 3 years living an impossible dream.  I will always be a proud son of Krypton.”

“Keep believing in a better tomorrow.”

Sorry to see this. I, personally, could not watch this on Sy-Fy, as I cannot afford another streaming service. I did see the first season when it became available on DVD, and I am hoping to see season 2 in the same manner. I suspect there are others that couldn’t help out on the ratings for the same reason as I As for future episodes, I hope they find a home that can make the first runs more widely available.

SyFy owes us a movie to wrap up the storyline, if they won’t give us season three. You can’t have Jor El in Brainiac’s clutches without a fight. SyFy should do the right thing. Then again it’s WB we’re talking about and they owe us Man if Steel II and we’ll never get that either.

Sci-fi did the exact same thing with the show Farscape. After fans complained of the cancellation, they decided to finish the series with a three or four hour TV movie.

So basically they “Farscaped” Krypton.

This is so unbelievable!

Hopefully they will give us a TV movie to finish the series like they did with Farscape.

Farscape!!! Haven’t heard that one mentioned in a long time! It was great and had a lot of great people in it.

Yeah it was a great show. I do know that two of the main characters from that series went on to guest star on the show Star Gate SG1, but as characters unrelated to Farscape. I wish that sci-fi channel didn’t do the same thing to Krypton what they did to Farscape. If it’s one thing that annoys me, it’s a show with no conclusion. Especially if it’s a show that I enjoy watching. So now I’m left with “ That’s it??? It’s over??? What happens next???”. The Sara Conner Chronicles series did a similar thing as well. Not a… Read more »

Hello, it’s me, Common Sense. Why wasn’t this on Netflix at any point? All their CW garbo is on Netflix. Titans is on Netflix (outside the US, at least). Freaking Gotham is on Netflix. Why did they drop this on the Syfy channel with, I presume, a deal that would bar them from dropping the show on Netflix between seasons? Even I haven’t seen past the first episode of the first season and even that I had to look for, because I’m not American (and thus have no access to Syfy).

Krypton Cancelled!!??? What????
I can’t believe this! Unbelievable! This was one of the best sci-fi shows that I’ve ever seen. They teased big things for a third season and they just decided to cancel it??? Aw come on!

I admit that before Krypton premiered last year, I was skeptical. I didn’t think that another prequel show on Superman’s history would be any good. But then I saw season one, and I was very impressed. Even more so this second season. I was really really looking forward to seeing a third season. Thanks for disappointing me sci-fi channel!

They really need to adjust they way they measure ratings. Nobody watches live tv anymore, I have seen a few shows that were cancelled because of low ratings that also had very high recording stats. Get past the rating system in place it is obsolete

This is just sad. Unfortunately, I’ve been living overseas for the last 4 years. So I can’t see Krypton on the Sci-Fi channel or whatever platform it’s seen on.
Personally, I think they should try to make a deal with NetFlix and get season 3 started.

It is sad GodzillaofSteel. At this point I’d settle for the third season to be made on Netflix. It would mean that I would have to wait longer though for the blue ray/dvd release since I don’t have Netflix, but I wouldn’t mind waiting an extra year. For me It would definitely be better than not having the third season.

I’m really sorry to hear this – and before I even got a chance to watch the show (I live in Germany and was really hoping it would be released on Netflix over here). The clips I’ve seen of it seemed pretty good – far better, in any case than the unwatchable (for me) ‘Gotham’ and more to my tastes than ‘Supergirl’. I hope they do manage to continue ‘Krypton’ on DC Universe or elsewhere.

Noooooo! This should be a Superman Homepage April fools joke, not a reality. 🙁 Krypton was my favorite show, and it was so well written and produced. I really really hope someone picks it up. Part of me hopes the CW takes it, but most of what they produce looks so cheap in terms of graphics. So much story left to tell!!!

The show, good as may be couldn’t recapture the same number audience as season one. I don’t know about a lot if you but I can’t take any more prequel(s). And that’s in main stream movies as well as TV.

Yeah, It’s hard to get invested in a story when you know how it turns out. Any tension that is trying to get built up doesn’t work if you already know whether or not it matters to the characters in the long run.

I guess that’s why they brought in all the time-travel stuff but then seeing Superman’s history getting all mucked up isn’t that much fun either. Also just tired of them mining the mythos while avoiding Superman like he’s the plague.

Agreed with all three of you here Redcape, JasEL and Mattcomics. It gets tiresome watching these shows avoid the elephant in the room. The little bit of payoff we got in Smallville after a 10 year run really soured me on these concepts. Gotham’s ending wasn’t much better IMHO.

I was only able to ever catch the first episode. At this point it’s unlikely that I’ll subscribe to dc service so who know if I’ll ever get to see the episodes. I’d like to echo what some of you have said, while I thought that money and effort went into this, I just can’t really get invested in prequels anymore. It’s just too much dancing around the elephant in the room and it becomes tiresome and infuriating. I was able to look past in smallville but the small payoff we got at the end of that 10 year run… Read more »
