It was revealed during the “DC Master Class” panel at Comic-Con this weekend, that writer Frank Miller and artist John Romita Jr. are teaming-up to create a new 100-page graphic novel titled “Superman: Year One”.
“It has to do with revisiting the origins of a certain DC Comics character,” said Miller, introducing the book. “It has to do with revisiting a certain DC Comics character who wears glasses in his normal life.”
In an interview with Vulture.com, Miller said, “I’ve got a new Superman project that’s getting started, telling his origins… It’s telling his beginnings from when Pa Kent discovered him in the cornfield, and the little boy goes to youth, and then to manhood.”
No release date has been set as yet, but we’ll keep you updated on this project as news comes to hand.
Awesome news! I was wondering when we would get a new origin/year one story… it’s been almost 6 months since the last one!…
Jokes aside, I am excited for the pairing of Romita Jnr and Miller once again. I loved their work on Daredevil: The Man Without Fear. Romita’s art is suited to Millers style. If Klaus Janson is inking, then that would make it even more better. I hope though that Romita does bring his A game to the art. So hope he is not bogged down with deadlines. His 90’s work was pretty good.
Ehh, I’m not sure either one of these creators has a firm grasp on the character of Superman.
I don’t think these 2 individuals are the correct choice to make a Superman story. Both men have admitted that they are not really fans of Superman. But I’ll remain optimistic and hope that these guys will be respectful of our favorite hero.
Agreed.
Miller never was respectful with SUPERMAN,JUST THE OPPOSITE.
Miller on Superman is never an exciting prospect, but hey, I haven’t read terrible things about DK3, so maybe he has something interesting to offer? We’ll see.
As for Romita Jr, I’m just not a fan.
Agreed on both things. As much as I appreciate what DKR did for comics, I hated that he made both batman and superman unlikable in that story.
Still mad that they used that as a basis for batman vs superman.
Not something in which I’d be interested. Miller is really not suited to Superman and I ,personally , can’t stand JRJR’s art.
i agree that he’s not suited. I’m not interested in yet another deconstruction of superman like landis did. Dan Jurgens has showed with rebirth that we can celebrate who superman is rather than rethink it.
And Romita jr’s art is not for me.
Didn’t Frank Miller once say that he hated Superman, and that was why he wrote him the way he did in The Dark Knight Returns?
Yes, but no.
Here’s the exchange:
DC All Access: So my big question is: do you hate Superman?
Frank Miller: Of course, who wouldn’t hate someone who could fly, someone who is just loved by everyone, was the handsomest guy who could get all the dates. Of course I went for the underdog who had a nasty streak to him and played a much nastier game than Superman.
All of this was said more jokingly than seriously.
It’s a no to both of them from me. I loathe JRJr’s art with a passion, and Miller…no.
Indeed…Year One “The Real – Nitty Gritty”: Well, it would seem that DC really wants to provoke the -Superman fans- “in the audience”, with the assigning Frank Miller and pairing up him up with JR-jr in this latest creative task of this novel, given Millers’ past sentiments in and of the subject matter THAT IS… I never thought JR-jr (s) art was quite right for Superman but that’s is my OP and in the past – however he did do a good job with “Spider-man” “a Marvel product”. Now, just to be fair, prehaps JR-jr has refined some of his… Read more »
I don’t like both creators…
🙁
If it weren’t for Rebirth, I’d say DC and WB no clue as to who Superman is anymore or what to do with him. Because of Rebirth, they have just a little clue. smh
…We’ll see.
F.Miller shouldn’t be allowed to put his fingers on Superman. Never again.
Clap,clap,clap.
This upsets me. Romitas art wasnt well suited to supes when he wormed on it a while back. But he could get the hdng of it and i really like his marvel work, the thing i really have a problem with is frsnk miller. Once he was a good writer and had his characters following a moral code (his 80s daredevil run was all about his devotion to the law and justice) and i dont have a problem with supes depiction in DKR, it was bats story and supes was still being a hero….but since then hes gone down a… Read more »
Please, say that isn´t true…Didn´t this overrated author do enough against Superman?
