There’s no doubting that Lex Luthor is Superman’s greatest foe, with 40% of your votes going to the greatest criminal mind of our time. Darkseid and Brainiac were well behind, with all other villains making up the rest of the vote.

This was another hard one. I didn’t pick Lex, as he is my default favorite, So it was a toss up between Brainiac, Darkseid and Cyborg Superman.
I really couldn’t pick so I didn’t vote. There’s things I like about most of them. Lex and Zod I like but they have also lost a little of their luster for me just from over exposure (I mean the movies even had to make Zod be Doomsday while Brainiac has never been on the big screen. WTF?) I wouldn’t dream of having Superman without them but they’ve kind of a reached a bit of a saturation point for me. Darkseid I’ve loved since being a kid collecting the Super Powers toyline but I couldn’t decide if I thought of… Read more »
I have never felt that Bizarro and Mxyzptlk were villains. Bizarro began as a tragic creature who could not fit in until he founded Htrae. Even then he had a moral code, (though flawed) that he lived by. For a time, writers followed the example set in the animated shows and portrayed him in that fashion, but in recent years, I notice that they are once again “getting it” that Bizarro IS Superman with a twist. He wants to do the “right thing”, but doesn’t know how. See the current “Red Hood” comics. The thoughts this version of Bizarro has… Read more »
Or “Bizarroly” said: He didn’t have a moral code, (though righteous) that he didn’t live by.
XD
I agree completely. Both 2 can’t be considered enemies.
For me the greatest enemy is by far Darkseid. In the end all Supes needs against Luthor is to expose his crimes (well, manage to expose them). Darkseid… Superman can punch him as much as he wants, turn him into a pulp but in the end Darkseid will always have his people’s loyalty. He is not just a ruler for them, he is a god. Not that much because of his power but more because what he means to Apokolips. There was a great example in Justice League Unlimited when he crushes Dseid and even that his slaves work togetherto… Read more »
I voted for Brainiac because there’s something about him that I find interesting. I really like the version of Brainiac from “Superman: The Animated Series” as well as the version from Geoff Johns “Superman: Brainiac.”
I’m surprised that Parasite was not on the villain-list. Although he pretty much just a thug, I always felt Parasite is a nice threat to Superman. So I’m just a little surprised that he wasn’t on the list, especially since I really like him when he’s not in his “giant monster form.”
I forgot about parasite. Good call GodzillaofSteel. Yeah parasite is more or less a thug with powers. Although I do think if he were to absorb powers from multiple super powered individuals along with Superman’s, he could could be a serious threat to the Man of Steel.
If Parasite went up against Doomsday, could he stand a chance? Could he be able to absorb Doomsday’s powers and use them against him?
That’s a good question, Spidey2878. I’ve never actually thought about what would happen if Parasite tried to absorb Doomsday’s powers. I’m not sure what would happen because, in my opinion, Doomsday is just raw strength and bulk. Doomsday “adapts” and then becomes “immune” to whatever hurt it/him before. So I would imagine that Parasite would just absorb Doomsday’s strength and bulk, but not his ability to become immune to what hurt/killed him before. Just my opinion though.
Just given how Parasite’s powers are usually portrayed, I think if he did absorb Doomsday’s powers then at least until he needed a recharge he would have that “adapt” ability. …but then having that ability might effect whether or not he needed the recharge.
In either case I think Parasite would be able to do it exactly once. ..but then that might be all he needs. Meanwhile Doomsday would be the most vulnerable he has ever been.
What about Mxyzptlk vs Doomsday? Mxy can warp reality, so theoretically doomsday might have trouble adapting. I know that there was an issue 20 years ago where Mxy made his own version of Doomsday. I think he called his version Boomsday. It was an over the top spoof on the death of Superman where instead of Superman dying, Mxy perished. But at the last page it turned out he survived. This is when Superman had electric powers instead of his traditional ones.
Good question Spidey2878. But I think Mxyzptlk vs Doomsday would actually be finished very quickly. Mxy could just teleport Doomsday out to Jupiter’s giant red spot where he would just twirl around in a giant, never-ending tornado for all eternity. Doomsday wouldn’t die, but he’d have no way to get back to earth because Jupiter is a giant gas planet with not solid surfaces to leap from.
I voted for Lex( no,not for president lol, a little president Luthor reference there)because he was the first villain I saw Superman go up against. He’s basically Superman’s opposite in the sence that he has no powers, and he uses his intelligence to figure out ways to make problems for the Man of Steel. He was written as a mad scientist. Later on he was written as a billionaire businessman. So financially he can afford to build the inventions that he has against superman. Brainiac being a 12th level intellect, he’s still a robot. So he could still physically fight… Read more »
I forgot conduit. Definitely a villain that’s worth mentioning. He was both a physical threat to Superman as well as a psychological. I just wish that they would bring back this character.
To whoever gave me the -1, I don’t know if you read my previous post on my apology, if not I’ll say it again. If you are upset with me for whatever reason, I’m sorry. I do apologize. I hope that my apology helps make amends to whatever offense you feel that I have made. What do you say? Can we let bygones be bygones?
at this point Spidey, every time i see the down vote, i literally lol. wear it as a badge of honor bro!
It is unfortunate that there is no reasoning with this person. Although I pretty much figured that they wouldn’t listen anyway. I still thought I should try a least. So now I know.
There’s actually a few that I’m surprised didn’t make the list and yet Prankster and Toyman did?
Parasite and Mongul I was surprised about not being on the list, but then again, Steve did put the “other” option to vote in.
Some other characters that I have enjoyed being Superman’s nemesis at one point or another are: Eradicator, Conduit, Massacre, Dominus, Satanus, Atomic Skull, Blood Sport, Ultraman and The Elite.
