Bloodsport to Menace National City in “Supergirl” Season 3

That Hashtag Show has received casting details and (spoiler) character descriptions for the antagonists set to menace National City in Season 3 of “Supergirl”.

Last month we learned that Morgan Edge (played by Adrian Pasdar) would be one of the main villains to cause trouble for both Kara and Lena Luthor this season, we now know that he’ll also be enlisting the help of another villain… Bloodsport.

The casting description for this role reads:

ROBERT DUBOIS/BLOODSPORT – Male, 30-40s… Looking for memorable, and distinctive performers. This evil and threatening Merc is an ex-military man who has infiltrated his former base and stolen a variety of articles that he uses to cloak an underwater nuclear device. As we later learn, he is in the employ of Morgan Edge, and he has been hired to blow up the waterfront with an underwater nuke… PRINCIPAL.

As for Morgan Edge, his casting description reveals that Edge is “as corrupt as he is intimidating, he intends to clear the area one way or another, and he has enlisted the services of a madman to blow up the area during a special ceremony in Supergirl’s honor. This savvy and formidable titan of industry is pushing through a huge new redevelopment plan for the city’s waterfront – and he doesn’t care if he has to uproot the entire indigenous immigrant population to implement his money-grubbing scheme.”

Additionally, we now know that the previously announced characters of Psi, Reign and Ruby are actually a family of women… Gail Marsh (Psi), her daughter Samantha Marsh (who becomes Reign), and Samantha’s daughter Ruby.

Gail is the “deadly and seductive PSI (aka Gail Marsh), a DC Comics foe of Supergirl, possesses psychic abilities which allow her to bring out her victim’s darkest fears. While she is a physical threat, her real power comes in bringing the Girl of Steel to her knees without throwing a punch.”

Samantha is “a professional, young single mom (Trying to balance work and life), who begins to struggle to hold onto her humanity when an alter-ego, Reign – ruthless, righteous, superhuman – begins to take over her personality. Most important in Sam’s life is her young daughter, Ruby, who Sam would sacrifice everything to protect.”

And Ruby, who is “smart, sensitive, funny, but a bit of an outsider with her peers. An independent think who doesn’t like to follow the crowd. She’s fiercely loyal to her single mother, Sam (Odette Annable) and the two make a great team, looking out for each other and enjoying each other’s camaraderie. But Ruby’s not shy about speaking up for herself – even to her mother – when she feels she’s in the right.”

“Supergirl” returns for its third season Monday, October 9, at 8/7c on The CW.

Phew, for a moment I got spooked they had stopped leeching off of Superman’s mythos. Good to see they’re back on track.

I was thinking the same thing. DC has tons of villains for the CW to use but they have to keep ripping off Supes’??? So much for originality.

Since Reign will have a family of her own, will it be a dark reflection of Supergirl’s family? Could they be the anti Danvers for Reign? Raised to be cruel and unjust? Supergirl was raised with an adopted family that cared and loved her. She also had her cousin Superman, although they have yet to have shown any memories with Clark during Kara’s childhood. In the latest trailer Supergirl says that life as Kara Danvers was a mistake. Will Reign and her family cause Kara to rethink her decision on abandoning her identity as Kara by reconnecting with the family that… Read more »

Thank you for the compliment. I’m also thinking that the villain bloodsport might not stuck around long. He might just be a muscle villain and would probably be in an episode or two. As for Lena Luthor, I wonder if she will also have any contact with reign and her family? Lena having disowned her stepmother, and being betrayed by the daximite queen last season might lead her to look again for another surrogate mother in reign’s mother. I assume it’s reign’s adoptive mother since no other ship besides Kal-el’s, Kara’s, and Reign’s left Krypton’s fate. Of course I’m just… Read more »

And again another Superman villain in Supergirl’s show.
