Alex Danvers Set for Dark Turn in “Supergirl”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alex Danvers is set to take a darker turn in Monday night’s episode of “Supergirl”, after learing that her father Jeremiah is colluding with Cadmus.

“It’s hard because when they realize that there’s a deeper issue going on with Jeremiah, you don’t really know where his loyalties lie,” Chyler Leigh says. “When that’s questioned and Alex gets put in a position where she’s questioning it, it becomes this deep, dark intense realizing, her coming to grips with the fact that this isn’t in her control. Basically, Alex goes head-to-head with Lillian Luthor, so it’s a really powerful episode.”

Titled “Exodus”, this episode is scheduled to air on The CW in the USA on Monday, March 6 at 8.00pm ET/PT.

Why has a character that doesn’t even exist in the comics been made into a second lead?

I was actually just thinking about this. Firstly I think it’s actually an interesting idea to give Kara an Earth sister. It makes for a point of difference between her and Clark who was raised an only child. It also makes for an interesting character dynamic between the two where there is a combination of sibling rivalry, love and envy at play. It occurred to me that for Kara’s relationship with Alex to be compelling for the audience Alex has to be a strong character in her own right who has her own things going on as well as her… Read more »

I pretty much agree with andramus on this one. Granted, it’s Supergirl’s name on the marquee so to speak and she deserves pride of place as the main protagonist. I don’t think Alex is really taking that away from her and overall she has been a gain for a character that has been around a long time but never really had a stable and interesting supporting cast in the comics.

If only Alex was anywhere near as interesting as LoisLane.

Well maybe once she has 79 years of history in numerous mediums with various interpretations she will be.

She has to be interesting first, then she gets the longevity. Lois was interesting to start.

I would argue that Alex is also.

Well then, I guess we let time be the final arbiter. Only 78 more years to go. 😉

Why is the correct query. Alex has received a ton of spotlight this season, and is still little more than a flaccid Mary Sue.

I’ve come across two definitions of a Mary Sue. The first is a character that every other character loves, ie. is everything to everybody. The second is a character who is good at everything and has no flaws. I suppose a third definition could be a combination of those two traits. Based on those definitions I fail to see how Alex could be described as a Mary Sue. I will grant that she is a Super Agent of the DEO. But really those character types are a comic staple like Nick Fury of SHIELD or Amanda Waller/Steve Trevor of Checkmate/Argus.… Read more »

Nick Fury
Amanda Waller
Steve Trevor

These are all interesting characters. These are characters that have stood the test of time, especially Steve Trevor(he’s had it rough), and aren’t good comparisons for what you’re driving for. Damian Wayne is a Mary Sue, and has more in common with Alex than the other characters mentioned.

Why should we care bout her? Because she is a lesbian now, and if anyone doesn’t like it then they are haters, bigots or worse… Sarcasm aside, I’m just sick of this character being overly promoted. We know why she is, but sadly, she has become boring and mopey because of it. Her sexuality has become her defining attribute, wherefore in season one, she had more depth. I don’t care what her sexual orientation is, just make her more interesting again. Sadly, other than the Martian Manhunter and Ms Martian stuff, the rest of the supporting cast I feel really… Read more »
