According to Collider.com, Warner Bros. Pictures are set to announce that a “Super Pets” movie is in the works, with “The LEGO Batman Movie” writer Jared Stern hired to write and direct the film.
Based on characters like Krypto the Super Dog, Streaky the Super Cat, Beppo the Super Monkey and Comet the Super Horse, the Super Pets concept has been around since “Adventure Comics #293” (dated February 1962), and have also been seen in animated form across a number of cartoon and animated series over the years.
It’s not known yet whether the upcoming “Super Pets” movie will be based on DC’s “Legion of Super-Pets” or the Cartoon Network series, or whether it will be something completely fresh and new. With very little details available as yet, we’ll have to wait and see just how many of the Superman family of Super Pets will be included in the film.
Yup…we’re getting a Krypto film before another Superman film.
I, for one, could not be happier about this information.
Makes me think of Krypto the Superdog back in the 2000’s. I miss that show.
It was truly a bit ahead of the trend and its time. I’m not old enough to have enjoyed the original publication of the old Legion of Super Pets stuff, but in back issues and collections I’ve gotten a real kick out of it. And I’m not afraid to say I’ve picked up my fair share of the Aw, Yeah Super Pets material.
