Rumor – Warner Bros. Planning for a 2020 “Man of Steel” Sequel

Ever since the release of 2013’s “Man of Steel”, fans have been clamoring for Superman to star in his own solo film again. After Big Blue shared the screen with Batman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the rest of his super friends in “Justice League”, the talk turned to ideas of a new Superman film, with a brighter Man of Steel ready to launch in to another movie on his own. But no Superman film has been listed on Warner Bros.’ slate.

Revenge of the Fans EIC Mario-Francisco Robles dropped a rumor about a possible “Man of Steel 2” a new episode of “El Fanboy” Podcast. According to his source at Warner Bros., they want the sequel to hit theaters in 2020.

Obviously this is just a rumor at this point in time, and there’s been no official word from Warner Bros. However a number of potential directors have shown interest, with Matthew Vaughn and Christopher McQuarrie both having been linked to the possible project.

I wonder if what Robles said is true. I guess we will have to wait and see if it’s true or not.

If that’s true they need to start soon. Maybe they’ll announce at Comic-Con…

True but not another Snyder one.

I doubt very much that Snyder will return. However, I will say, it was nice to see Snyder grow as a filmmaker in his 2 1/2 DCEU movies. He had epic in mind, and he works well with incredible visuals… His sequential storytelling was a bit off, but like I said, he was getting better.

The next director really needs to build from what Snyder has done, and make it his own, without losing or ignoring what came before. Like Irvin Kershnar did for Empire Strikes Back and the Russo bros did with Avenger Infinite War.

Didn’t Henry Cavill say back in December at Long Island Comic Con that WB was actively working on a Man of Steel script? Is it possible that it is now finished (or nearly finished)? Also there is some buzz about Peter Jackson of Lord of The Rings fame considering directing a DC film.

Put one and one together and boom, we get our much awaited and anticipated Man of Steel sequel.

I really hope this is true.

Not that I remember, he recently said he had ideas and was waiting to talk to a guy who talks to the guy who makes the decisions.
But if an actor for a film is having to pitching ideas for a film they would star in, well it’s not good.
It means he wants to do it, but the studio is not. The studio should be tapping Cavill for a sequel, not the other way around.

They better make it good – it’s make or break time for the DCEU at this point. Thankfully, we won’t have Snyder or Goyer to worry about… but that doesn’t mean we’re “out of the woods” yet.

Exactly. WB still has basically the same cooks in the kitchen.

I agree. A new writer and director would be a good idea. I’m a fair person, so I will say I’ll give Cavill another chance provided that the script is a good one. Although I do think we will learn more on what movies will come pass 2020 soon. As to what those DCEU movies are , I can only guess.

I think financially it’s already too far gone at this point. They have been so far surpassed by the competition that while they might do decent numbers, the really big $$$ will never happen for this particular universe. Too much (bad) baggage imo. Of course, they can still make a really good movie that does well enough, so here’s hoping.

Until I see some sort of confirmation of naming the soon to be director, and all the actors involved including Henry, then I’m hyped.

Mario-Francisco Robles has been breaking MoS 2 “scoops” that have been wrong time and time again.
It would be announced at Last year’s Comic Con, right after JL, before the end of Jan 2018, Wonder-Con now it’s a “planned 2020” release.
I swear he’s just throwing stuff at the wall until one of his “scoops” stick so he can play the “see I told you” game.
He’s like the Star magazine of movie “scoops.”

So is Robles saying this to get attention?

I can’t say “Yes he is definitely lying,” but has had several “scoops” that didn’t come to fruition. He used to work for IGN, had relationships with others in the industry like Umberto Gonzalez, Jett from Batman-on-Film and others that have all distanced themselves from him. Though, those guys don’t have a clean track record, either, but they still turn solid scoops time to time. So is he lying? I can’t say 100% he is, but his record for scoops is really bad. Saying a 2020 MoS 2 release is a solid guess for a betting man though. You can… Read more »
