March 13, 2017: Matthew Vaughn Could Direct "Man of Steel 2"

According to Collider.com, sources within Warner Bros. have indicated that the studio is looking to recruit filmmaker Matthew Vaughn to direct the next Superman movie.

Vaughn, who directed "Kingsman: The Secret Service" has reportedly held preliminary conversations with Warner Bros. about the idea, although they're not yet in the deal-making stage of proceedings.

The director has been involved with previous superhero films, including "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class," and was once in talks to direct a Superman film (before "Man of Steel"), when in 2010 he and Mark Millar pitched a Superman idea to Warner Bros. At the time he said, "I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious 'The Dark Knight' version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me."

If he does agree to direct the next Superman film, the above comments would obviously please fans who thought that the direction Zack Snyder took Superman in in "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" were too dark and depressing.

For now, we wait and see whether these initial talks eventuate into anything more. It's just great to hear that a Superman movie is still being discussed within the walls of Warner Bros. studios.
