December 14, 2015: "Larger Threat" Beyond Doomsday in "Batman v Superman"

In the wake of the latest trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", many fans complained that showing Doomsday ruined the end of the movie, as we now knew what the big threat of the film was that would bring Batman and Superman (and Wonder Woman) together.

However, in an interview with French magazine Premiere, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos revealed that there may be a "larger threat" beyond Doomsday for our heroes to contend with.

Fans also complained about Doomday's physical form, with some fans going so far as to Photoshop larger spikes and boney protrusions on an image of the movie's monster. Tatopoulos reveals, "Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way." Whether he's referring to the creature's appearance or something else is hard to determine.

He continues, "When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn't just killed off at the end or something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex's plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod... then how would that evolve into Doomsday."

Interestingly, Tatopoulos reveals that there's a "larger threat" than just Doomsday, adding that "timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans", because "Doomsday isn't just the final act."

As for those fans I mentioned at the top of this news item... "Those feeling they may know too much this early, are going to be in for a true surprise."
