We're seeing more of the Superman themes this season, and the benefit from that is that the series will lead as a gateway to the Superman mythos. "Krypto" is a very good way to start off a potential Superman fan, and the creators of the series have taken advantage of that fact. There are more prominent uses of Kryptonite so far, as well as Krypto's costume which seems brighter and more eye-catching. And let's not forget that Mechani-Kat is much more threatening this year. After failing another plot to beat Krypto, Mechani-Kat builds a robotic replica of himself to aide in his ruling. But, as usual, the Mechani-Bot gains a mind of its own and plans to take over the ship. Now Mechani-Kat needs the help of Krypto and the Dog Stars. In one truly great scene Mechani-Bot uses pure red sunlight to weaken Krypto, which shows that the writers are referring to the mythos more and that's not a bad thing; last season the series chose to individuate itself more, and now it seems intent on showing it's a part of the canon. Mechani-Bot is also a very good new villain who is also the rival of the original Mechani-Kat.

Stretch-O-Mutt to the Rescue

Written by: Paul Dini
Directed by: Scott Jeralds

Paul Dini a prominent writer for the DC Animated Universe series, and writer of the comedy animated series "Freakazoid" and "Road Rovers" shows his influence for this episode featuring a guard dog named Buddy who becomes an inadvertent hero. While guarding a top secret robot at STAR Labs, he finds himself stuck in a vat of mysterious fluid - ala the Joker - and ends up as a stretch-o-mutt. Krypto - like Superman - discovers Stretch-o-Mutt and helps him realize his potential for doing good and takes him in to his confidence. Attempting to stop two of Luthor's secret agents who intend on selling the robot to him, Stretch-O-Mutt along with Krypto decide to stop the guards before they let the secret out. Stretch-O-Mutt makes one final crusade against the evil-doers and becomes a costumed superhero all thanks to Krypto who plays an unintentional hand in the forming of yet another costumed crusader. Krypto, like Superman, was the first and helped create many successors.
