Eddie's Answers

December 2001

Mark Bailey (CptColumbo@aol.com) asks:
In "Legends of the DC Universe", a new version of the Ultra-Humanite was introduced. Are there any plans to bring him back?

Eddie: There certainly are, but not necessarily in the Super-books.

Travis (Monty977@aol.com) asks:
If Superman were to donate blood, would that person be somewhat "super" as well? This may seem like a dumb question but I'd really like to know.

Eddie: This might be more of a problem for the receiver than it's worth. In reality people have to be the same blood type or be O-negative, which are universal donors, otherwise the receiver's body will reject the blood. In the case of Superman, hs super-charged blood cells would enter a system and destroy what is already there, unless they were compatible, which they wouldn't be. So this is one area that we normal folks can do something the Man of Steel can't and be real heroes too.

Jason Lavigne (jslavigne@yahoo.com) asks:
Can you reveal what kind of villains Superman will be facing in the coming issues? Any chance we'll see my favorite villain Doomsday any time again soon and find out what Darkseid's plans for him are?

Eddie: We've kinda donated Doomsday Rex to ORION for now, so it's up to them if we see him soon, but next year is his tenth anniversary, so we'll see. As for upcoming villains, let's see: a new Toyman debuted this December; January has Overmind returning in MAN OF STEEL, and in ACTION there's a powerful Japanese trio, Byakko, Gunshin and Sakki, who will be making things tough for Kal, one of them even has a link to Clark's past; February features a redo on a villain featured in another title that once had links to Superman. The new guy has an axe to grind.

Martin Alejandro Salinas (mas_el@yahoo.com) asks:
Some years ago (around the time of Superman Blue) Jim Lee created a new Superman costume for a Wizard magazine. That costume was really cool. Any chance of you guys puting that costume in the regular series of Superman?

Eddie: People fuss when they hear we're changing anything on Superman. We've done the black S, and that's it for now, but, yeah, Jim Lee's designs were cool. We should get him to redesign someone else's costume.

Alberto Rojas (kalel1973@yahoo.com) says:
First of all I want to say that you and your team are doing an amazing job on the Superman books. I just want to ask something about "behind the scenes". I mean how do you conceive ideas for the next storyline or crossover, for example could you tell us how you conceived OWAW? Who had the idea? How do you interconnect those stories? I would like to know the story behind the scenes of making a comic book. Any advanced hints as to what the next big event will be?

Eddie: Once a year we have a Superman-summit where all four writers meet for a period of two days, and we just throw out all kinds of crazy ideas that become our storylines and crossovers. This was the case with OWAW, a communal idea that I can't clearly say who came up with it. One thing gets suggested and it snowballs. We all blame each other. For one thing, Joe Casey came up with something that Jeph Loeb gets to execute this January, which will build to something huge this Summer.

Chris Davis (borghirogen@aol.com) asks:
Will we be seeing Scorn and/or Kandor anytime soon?

Eddie: No. Maybe, but not the one you're thinking of, and not 'til later next year.

Terry Hancock Jr (kal_el42@hotmail.com) asks:
Does Superman lay claim to any religious beliefs? (i.e. Christian, Muslim, ect.) If so is there any chance that this aspect of his character will be expanded upon in the future?

Eddie: All that I will commit to is that Superman believes.

Mariano A. Alfonsi (maa1982@fibertel.com.ar) asks:
What is the reason for the 2 month delay on Superman covers? Why in January do we have March and so on...?

Eddie: From what I roughly understand it reflects a date for the newstands as to the longevity they can leave a book out.

Thanks again, Eddie!

Eddie: Always a pleasure. Super and Happy Holidays to all!
