Eddie's Answers

We've got an added bonus this month... 2 answers from writer Jeph Loeb:

Richard (email address withheld by request) asks:
In "Superman/Batman #13" would Superman have survived the Omega Effect and remained conscious/been able to fight on if Wonder Woman hadn't blocked it?

Jeph Loeb: I'm reminded of a "Saturday Night Live" skit where they asked what would have happend to America if George Washington had an invisible plane and robot dog? All we know is that Wonder Woman was there to make absolutely certain Superman could do what he had to do -- and certainly taking the full brunt of an Omega Blast wasn't going to tickle!

Richard (email address withheld by request) asks:
In "Superman/Batman #13" was it necessary for Superman to take the fight to the Sun to defeat Darkseid?

Jeph Loeb: To do the damage he did we have to assume that Superman POWERED UP by being next to the sun (thus Batman's commentary) to actually crack Darkseid's skin. Kinda cool, huh?

Many fans have asked:
What's up with the "DCU Encyclopedia"? While a nice volume, there are so many errors within it's not funny! Can you explain this?

Eddie: I know a lot of hard work went into it by the people involved in putting it together, so the errors were not intentional, but there was a lot of information that had to be gathered and made to fit depending on what current continuity was being followed.

Carey Lester (track13d@yahoo.com) asks:
In the new DC Comics encyclopedia, it is stated that the Kents found Kal-El in the birthing matrix, and the entries for the Eradicator and the history of the planet Krypton are all consistent with that of the Man of Steel origin, but the pictures all show the Birthright origin with the exception of the Fortress of Solitude. This seems to imply that the two origins will be fused together, is this the case or is it just an error because of the confusion about which origin is correct?

Eddie: How the two fit together will be explained in time.

Adam Keener (Dak52476@hotmail.com) asks:
Are there any plans to make a Christopher Reeve tribute comic?

Eddie: None that I am aware of right now. Obviously, we will miss his continuing contribution to the legend of Superman as Dr. Swann on SMALLVILLE, and to the human race as an amazing individual.

Curtis Stalenhoef (curt_138@hotmail.com) asks:
While I really enjoy the current titles, I miss the old format where the 4 books told the same storyline, and you got 1 part of the story in each title. It was great to get new Superman each week (or close to it). Is there any chance of going back to that format in the near future? How about bringing back the fourth title?

Eddie: I count SUPERMAN/BATMAN as the fourth Super-book. But as far as them all connecting, look to April for that happening with ACTION, ADVENTURES and SUPERMAN, and maybe doing it again at some other points next year, but we really want it to be an event when it does. The books wil be more closely connected though, even when not sharing a common storyline.

Bruce Kanin (bk9net@hotmail.com) asks:
Hi Eddie, I am a long-time reader of Superman and DC Comics (don't ask how far back). The latest runs of ACTION, AOS and SUPERMAN have been disappointing. My concerns range from confusion over storylines to a clutter of super-guest stars to, finally, unnecessary violence, including Doomsday killing a boy and his cat. I love the comics - Superman has been my favorite since the dawn of time - and hate to talk about his stories this way. Any thoughts?

Eddie: I'm not certain I understand where you're confused or how you feel there's a clutter of guest-stars. For the most part ACTION is more the team-up book with SUPERMAN having some cameos. As for the violence, we did not mean to offend with the boy's death. It was actually an homage to the Frankenstein scene where the monster plays with the little girl.

Eric Moreno (ericmoreno@hotmail.com) asks:
Who will take over for Azzarello and Lee when their run on "Superman" is over?

Eddie: Keep reading.

Robert Carnline (dccomicsguy@yahoo.com) asks:
Is the Supergirl who John Byrne created and Peter David expanded still part of the DCU? Will we ever see Supergirl Linda Danvers in the DCU again?

Eddie: At present Kara Zor-El is the only Supergirl you'll be seeing.

Robert Carnline (dccomicsguy@yahoo.com) asks:
Is the DCU suffering from timestream problems? We have had a Pre-Crisis (Kara Zor-El) Supergirl, a Post-Crisis (Matrix) Supergirl, Powergirl who seems to be Kryptonian again, Cir-El, the "Many Happy Returns" (Kara) Supergirl and now the real Post-Crisis (Kara Zor-El) Supergirl. Is there another "Crisis" coming in 2005? It seems there are various Supermen too. I think Adv. of Superman #200 even implied that. Are we seeing a multiverse again?

Eddie: I don't think we're quite at the multiverse level yet. But we'll try to straighten all this stuff out. I think, we have another SECRET FILES coming up that could help.

Thanks Eddie!

Eddie: Happy Turkey Day!
