Eddie's Answers

Joshua Kennedy (jlk10285@hotmail.com) asks:
I remember that towards the beginning of the latest run on "Action Comics" it was stated that Doomsday had escaped Apokolips and come to Earth. I know you probably don't want to give away any specifics, but can you say if we will be seeing Doomsday any time this year or in the near future?

Eddie: You saw versions of Doomsday in the current SUPERMAN/BATMAN arc, "The Supergirl from Krypton", but the real deal has been making his way to Metropolis in the pages of ACTION COMICS. Look for the big fight in ACTION #825!

Angela N. Parker (princezangie@aol.com) asks:
I have been very dissapointed with the characterization of Lana Lang in recent comics. She's gone from really good friend and interesting supporting character to pathetic stalker. What is your take on this and will Lana be redeemed in the future?

Eddie: We like Lana a lot, and want her to continue to be a great character, but she's had a tough life living in Superman's world. I'm afraid somethings are going to get tougher for her before they get better.

Liam Riley (liam_d_riley@hotmail.com) asks:
I am a new reader of Superman and I just wondered which collections/graphic novels/trade paperbacks you would recommend I read to help me catch up on the continuity of the character?

Eddie: Definitely read SUPERMAN: FOR ALL SEASONS written by Jeph Loen with art by Tim Sale. It's what made me go after Loeb when I got the job of editor of the books. Other fun collections are the DEATH OF SUPERMAN, there's things from it that still play a role in todays books. Also by Loeb with Ed McGuinness is the hardcover collection of the first six SUPERMAN/BATMAN issues - PUBLIC ENEMIES. Then there's the Trade Paperbacks NO LIMITS, ENDGAME, and RETURN TO KRYPTON that are excellent to catch up with and are also just fun reads. I'm probably forgetting some, but that should start you off.

Bob Bratcher (metropolis_marvel_1938@yahoo.com) asks:
I saw this Jeph Loeb quote from the Chicago WizardWorld convention: "It was Eddie who said the idea of the asteroid can be used to do this and this and this," referring to the asteroid seen in the current "Superman/Batman" arc that turned out to be carrying Kara Zor-El, the prime feature of the following arc. This reminded me of the numerous times I've seen different Superman writers crediting you for storyline ideas. Are you actually plotting the entire line of books, then having the writers fill in the details? Or are these typical interactions between editors and creators?

Eddie: I don't want to speak for other editors, but on my books, we go back and forth bouncing ideas. For one good idea I have, the writers have a bunch more. It's all really rewardng when we get something that you all like and it works.

Matt C. (chanfan86@yahoo.com) asks:
It has been announced, by DC, that all of Batman's comic book stories will be released chonologically from 1939 onward, in some kind of trade paperback format. Will we ever see this being done for Superman sometime in the future, as well? It's exciting, for me, to think that I can read all of Superman's stories from the Golden to Silver to Bronze Age without paying major dough for Archive editions or back issues.

Eddie: I haven't heard anything happening with Superman in that regard yet.

Jeff Dyer (DubuqueDyers@aol.com) asks:
Eddie, I attended Wizard World Chicago and heard Paul Levitz talk about how involved Christopher Nolan has been with DC regarding the new "Batman Begins" film. Have you, or anyone from DC, been in contact with Bryan Singer regarding the new "Superman" film? What do you think about this upcoming movie? Do you think it's going to "get it right"?

Eddie: I'm busy with the comics, and there are other folks here at DC that will be involved with the movie. As far as if he's going to "get it right", I look at X2 and I'm very happy about the prospect.

Tom Egan (badtom@ignmail.com) asks:
What has caused all off the delays with "Superman/Batman"?

Eddie: A crew that wants to make the best comic possible.

Neal Bailey (bailey.neal@comcast.net) asks:
Hi, Eddie! I was just wondering, given that they both came on the scene at about the same time in the DCU, who "officially" started being a superhero first, Batman or Superman, in current continuity?

Eddie: The Man of Steel!

Sankoni (sankoni@hotmail.com) asks:
Since BIRTHRIGHT established that Superman's costume is now made from Kryptonian fabric, why does it tear so often?

Eddie: He's got extras that Ma made that aren't from Krypton.

John (Jpx98@aol.com) asks:
Are there plans to bring back Superman in the Multipath 3D Adventures? I thought they were not only fun to watch but you had to choose the right choice or Superman fails. It was fun because you got to be part of the story.

Eddie: No, that was it for now.

Rich (email address withheld by request) asks:
Real quick question: Is the recent version of Gog as strong/powerful as Gog from the "The Kingdom" event?

Eddie: Yep (is that a quick enough answer?)

Larry Margolis (lmargolis@dkdr.com) asks:
Just wondering if you have had significant feedback from the readers and others regarding the storylines in Action, Adventures and Superman. Are you getting the positive reactions that you and DC wanted? There is a mixed reaction over on the DC boards but I'd say, that at best, eye-balling this, the reaction is 50/50.

Eddie: The more vocal fans are having their say on both sides, but we can never just go by what the internet is saying. Sales affect everything. And we look at it all, and see what's working and what's not, and that will lead us into a New Year for the Man of Steel.

D.M. (3jsnlv@cox.net) asks:
Here's a question I've been wanting to have answered but I can never find it: What is the maximum weight Superman can lift?

Eddie: I don't think we've ever established one. It all varies depending on his power level.

SCOTTY V (supermanvynn@comcast.net) asks:
While reading Action Comics #817 I notice that Supes says to Mohlman: "We've never been able to do extensive tests on my physiology..." and makes it sound as if he has no idea what his insides are like, is the whole Emil Hamilton experience erased from history?

Eddie: No, beacause there's also the story about the Superman-team being reduced by the Atom and having a fantastic voyage inside Superman's body from CRITICAL CONDITION that happened too. Simply said, there's never been extensive tests done by S.T.A.R. Labs that have gone on for instensive periods of time examining Kal.

Larry Margolis (lmargolis@dkdr.com) asks:
In "Action Comics" and "Adventures of Superman", Clark has been demoted (there seems to be a difference as to where and why in the two books) and in Superman, we haven't even seen Clark so we don't know his status there so I'll ignore that for now. Your explanation for the demotion, in this very forum, was that Clark's investigation into President Luthor, despite being truthful and despite revealing Luthor to be what he is, stepped on too many toes or ruffled too many feathers. Now, if so, this is totally out of character for Perry White, who demoted Clark (and who also concocted the story that Clark had been fired from the Planet so that he could investigate Luthor in the first place). What are your comments on this?

Eddie: Not so, Perry has to keep the credibility of the Daily Planet. Keeping Clark out of the spolight for a while is his tough love to Kent, until all can be forgiven by the public. Look at what's happening in our current media.

Jeffrey Burns (jbb4747@ksu.edu) asks:
Recently in the comcis, when Lois got shot, Superman was around the world fast enough to catch her before she hit the ground. But how did Superman hear the gunshot in the first place? The sound from the gunshot would have long since dissipated before it could reach that far, and even if it could reach that far, it would take time to travel that far... far more time than it would take for Lois to hit the ground. What gives? Is it some sort of psychic link Clark has to Lois?

Eddie: Greg Rucka and I discussed this, and it's got more to do with the bond of a husband and wife than any metahuman power. He just knew that something awful had happened to his soul mate. (And that was a loud gun.)

JB (blueshark21@yahoo.com) asks:
Hi Eddie, thanks for taking the time to talk to us and I love where you're taking the books. It seems that those who bear the symbol seem to be gravitating towards being an actual family; with a Kryptonian cousin Kara/Supergirl and an adopted cousin Kon-El/Superboy who is also 50% Kryptonian. My question is, can we expect to see these two younger quasi-siblings of his begin to be more prominent supporting characters in Superman's titles?

Eddie: Superboy is definitely there in ACTION (check out the Deecember on sale issue), we'll see what happens with the other cousin.

Thanks for continuing to be a part of this Fan Forum.

Eddie: Because I was late with my repsonses for the last 2 months here's a gift for you all... Check this out by Ivan Reis for the December on sale issue of ACTION #822...
