The CW Announces “Crisis on Earth-X” Superhero Crossover

The CW has announced that the upcoming 4-way crossover between its DC Superhero TV shows will be titled “Crisis on Earth-X”.

To celebrate the announcement, artist Phil Jimenez, known for his work on “Superwoman”, was asked to create a custom comic book cover paying homage to DC’s longtime annual comic book crossovers.

“We conceived this year’s crossover to be evocative of the annual Justice League/Justice Society crossovers we grew up with and looked forward to as kids,” said Executive Producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. “Phil was the perfect choice to bring the comic book cover iteration of this idea to life. You can count on one hand the number of artists who could compellingly represent so many characters in a single image. Phil is one of them. And his design invokes the cover of JUSTICE LEAGUE #207, which was the 20th Annual JLA/JSA crossover. Our ten-year-old selves are in heaven.”

Jimenez clearly took inspiration from those early crossovers as well. “Some of the first DC Comics I ever read were those insane crossovers with a dozen characters from alternate earths and dimensions – the kind of stuff I later became known for!” he revealed. “So when CW asked me to do an homage cover inspired by those amazing team up covers, I couldn’t resist, the chance to draw all of The CW’s DC Super-Heroes in one crazy action sequence was insanely fun and exciting. And Romulo Fajardo’a colors brought everything to life!”

This new crossover between “Supergirl”, “Arrow”, “The Flash”, and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” will begin on Monday, November 27 with “Supergirl” and “Arrow”, and continue on Tuesday, November 28 with “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”.

“Supergirl” returns Monday, October 9 at 8.00pm ET, “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” return Tuesday, October 10 at 8.00pm ET and 9.00pm ET, respectively, while “Arrow” moves to Thursdays at 9.00pm ET on October 12, all on The CW.

Hmm, so they’re gonna have Isis in the form of Zari Adrianna Tomaz (homage to Adrianna Thomas from the 70’s tv series) but for horrific and painfully obvious reasons they can’t actually call her that. I’m not sure what you could use as an alternative for her superhero name but there’s gotta something. “Zari” is kind of like Mr. Wayne deciding to call himself The Bruce when he’s in crime fighter mode.

Hope they cut out the nonsense of her marrying Black Adam and passing Black Adam off as some kind of anti hero or whatever.

So I guess there will be an evil Supergirl from another dimension for this event from the looks of this photo. What if it’s Powergirl only she’s evil in this series? And it looks like they’re introducing the Ray this season.

No. This is Supergirl’s evil Nazi doppelganger, Overgirl.

I’m not familiar with Overgirl. Is she a recent character in the comics?

She is on a CW Seed online feature about the character The Ray. And doing Overgirl’s voice in this CW Seed presentation…Melissa Benoist herself.

I actually would have been fine if they had used the name Power Girl but Overgirl works to.

I wonder what Overgirl’s back story is. I’m sure that the events of this episode will effect Supergirl for the rest of this season in some way. Probably it wil cause her to think about the possibility of going dark again like she did in season 1.

I have a feeling that might be a fear that she has. Turning bad and endangering her family, friends, and team mates at the DEO.
