Writer Mark Waid is set to team up with artist Dan Mora on a Batman/Superman project described as a “brand-new day” for the World’s Finest superheroes.
While the as-yet-untitled story is nicknamed “World’s Finest” in concept art released online, the story is reported to begin as a back-up story in “Detective Comics #1050” due to be released on January 25, 2022.
Look for further details to be released in DC’s January solicitations due for publication tomorrow.
Last month we reported on the news that Mark Waid will also be working with Bryan Hitch on an upcoming Superman project for DC’s Black Label imprint.
Superman’s design here seems to be inspired by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez’s version of the character.
It’s good to see a smiling Supes! I’m happy to see Waid writing more Superman stories.
I like the way this looks. 🙂
Hopefully this “World’s Finest” will actually be a good-old-fashioned team-up like a buddy-cop film. We don’t need anymore nonsense where Batman makes Superman look dumb. They both should be honored. They both should be showing their skills. Also, here’s a suggestion to this team of writers. THIS TIME, you can make Superman use his smarts/intelligence for a change. And also, a Superman who smiles is “wonderful and hopeful.”
It at least looks like something fun and cool but I don’t how much I trust DC to actually do that since I don’t really trust them at all. Hopefully the secret identity will be intact for this. If not, pass.
I really like that shot of Superman punching forward. Love the variation of Batman’s classic look here. Very interesting take on his utility belt kind of combining the “pack” look with the capsule containers. Not sure about the Craftsman tool-belt style buckle though.
