In an interview with MovieFone.com Tyler Hoechlin speaks about how it feels to have been chosen to portray Superman for the second season of the “Supergirl” TV series, his thoughts on playing Clark Kent, and working out in the gym for the role. Here’s part of the interview…
So many cool things are happening in your career right now. Let’s start with Superman: I have a hunch that you’re just as excited to play Clark Kent as you are to play the Man of Steel on “Supergirl.”
Oh, absolutely! Absolutely. I think it’s a part that you can’t really… it’s not complete without him. So I’m definitely excited to see both sides of him.
What did it mean to get this great role, be the next in this legacy, and to figure out what you’re going to do to make it your own interpretation of this great American icon?
It’s definitely incredibly humbling and flattering to even be given the chance to do it. And I think, I’m just going to do as much as I can to see how to bring the true spirit of the character to the show.
I know they have instructed me not to talk about it too much before I actually get there and actually do it. I’m excited to just kind of look at it from doing it with a clean slate and not trying to replicate or duplicate anything that’s been done, but just being honest to the story and how they’re writing him.
Did you take your workout up to 11?
I have definitely been in the gym more than I have been in the last two years, yes! That’s definitely been happening.

Can’t wait to see what his superman costume will look like, hope they’ll stick with his classic original look.
Yea, can’t wait to see the costume. I think it’ll be similar in texture and design to Supergirl’s.
It would be great if they bring back the classic look but I won’t count on it.
Earlier tonight, Tyler also competed in the Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, part of All-Star Week in San Diego, CA. He went 1-for-2 with a home run, played stellar defense, and was named the game’s MVP.
(Incidentally, they didn’t mention the fact he was playing Superman until he was being interviewed at the end!)
As a Superman, softball and baseball fan, I appreciate the update!
He actually almost played pro ball…he’s a VERY good baseball player
Let’s all hope for a great performance by Tyler so the network might pursue the idea of a Superman stand a lone weekly show. Being a long time fan of Superman and growing up in the 1950’s I always liked what is now called the “classic look” in his costume, but after seeing “The Man of Steel” and the new metallic look of his costume, as for my self I think it’s great and it is time for a change in TV. So I’m hoping they mimic the costume from the movie The Man of Steel…..I think it would really… Read more »
You could do a take on the classic outfit that incorporated the look of Kara’s suit and it’d work great. More likely though is it’ll be kind of a mix of Kara’s and the MOS look. Basically imagine the MOS suit only with the colors, textures, and symbol from Kara’s suit with an actual belt (probably gold).
They better not skimp on it. No CG mini-me’s zipping around passing for flying shots or barely showing them in-suit. Not tricks, no dodges,no BS. Give us Superman!
