Unfortunately, the previously announced 2019 “Metropolis” live-action drama is not included in today’s announcement of the DC Universe digital service, with Deadline.com reporting that the series has been pushed back to a later, unspecified date.
“Metropolis”, which was supposed to begin filming in New York City from June to December 2018, received a direct-to-series order for a first season of 13 episodes back in February. The series, which will be set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.
John Stephens (Gotham, Gossip Girl, The O.C., Gilmore Girls) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, Nikita, CSI series) are the executive producers of “Metropolis”. Danny Cannon will direct the first episode, from a teleplay by John Stephens, with story by Cannon and Stephens. Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC, “Metropolis” is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
Word is that the “Metropolis” idea will now be redeveloped.
Hmmm,
I’d say that this might be a bad sign for this series, but I could be wrong. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
My guess is they are not finding the right cast. Or maybe they changed their minds.
I hate superhero series without the superhero…
It’s like getting a birthday present without anything in the box. Some nice wrapping paper and a nice bow, but no actual gift. I wish that they would stop tiptoeing around a Superman tv series and give us one already. Or at the very least, give us a superman animated series where he’s the only Superhero.
Maybe because it’s a dumb premise?
It sounds a lot like X-files but with Lois and Lex instead of Mulder and Scully. I have a feeling that not that many people will be interested in seeing this show. I might be wrong though.
There are already enough superhero shows without the actual hero. This premise is old now. Not to mention a ‘freak of the week’ type show was done to death by smallville.
Maybe that’s what caused the delay for this series.
One can only hope! Let’s get some better ideas going, DC.
A quick Googling says that “Krypton”‘s numbers are falling at a steady rate. I’m guessing Superman-Minus-Superman may not be the goldmine DC imagined and doing it *again* might seems like a bad idea.
