February 28, 2014: A Conversation with Michael Wilkinson: Superman - Costuming an Icon

Man of Steel Costumes The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will host an event with "Man of Steel" Costume Designer Michael Wilkinson on Tuesday, March 4.

    Michael Wilkinson, 2014 Academy Award® nominee in costume design, appears in conversation with Bobi Garland, director of Historic Western Costume Company's Research Library and Costume Archive. Explore the design and cutting-edge technology used to create the Superman of the 21st century. Wilkinson's collaboration with film director Zack Snyder and costume designer James Acheson reignited a 75-year-old comic book superhero.

    A native Australian, Wilkinson enjoyed a successful career in costume design for opera and theater before venturing into film, including such projects as American Splendor, American Hustle, and the upcoming Noah. The conversation is followed by a unique opportunity to view examples of Wilkinson's costume designs, loaned by Warner Bros. exclusively for the evening.

The following five costumes from the "Man of Steel" movie will be on display: Henry Cavill: Superman, Russell Crowe: Jor-El, Antje Traue: Faora, Ayelet Zurer: Lara Lor-Van, Nicholas W. Von Zill: Kryptonian Council Member.

The event will take place on Tuesday, March 4 from 7.00pm at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Bing Theater located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. Entry is free for Costume Council members, $35 LACMA members and Costume Council guests, $25 for students with ID, or $40 for the general public.
