Laurence Fishburne Says He Won’t Be Appearing in “Justice League”

It appears as though Perry White will not be making an appearance in the upcoming “Justice League” movie according to Laurence Fishburne, who played the role in “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.

“They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in “Justice League” for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern,” said Fishburne, adding, “We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.”

As for his thoughts on “Batman v Superman” and the criticism the film received, “Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it.”

Shame. But if it was just for one scene, he didn’t have a big role anyway. I’m hoping he’s back in another DCEU film at some point though. I think he’s a great actor.

I think that pretty much seals the fate of journalist Clark Kent, he won’t be returning to the DCEU.
To me, no Perry White means they are not even going to address that part of the character. Which was kind of a given if Superman doesn’t return until the 3rd act, there wouldn’t be time for it, Clark had an open casket funeral and the next Superman movie wouldn’t even be happening until after 2020 if it even does.

It was kind of a given for Justice League; as you say, there wouldn’t be time. If these things are going to be addressed, it will be in the next Superman movie, if it happens. BvS, thematically, juxtaposed the Superman of Metropolis and Clark Kent of Smallville. They’ll need to work around some things to return journalist Clark to life, but for all intends and purposes it seems that Smallville already knew who Clark really was, for better or worse.

I agree with that: Smalville already knew who Clark was. The problem is that his death apeared in the Daily Planet so now everybody knows he’s dead.

Well members of the Daily Planet were at the open casket funeral, it wasn’t just the inside circle of people that lived in Smallville that knew who he was. So it’s not a simple work around, unless everyone really knows and they just pretend like they don’t. Again even if members of the Daily Planet were not there, in the obituaries he is announced dead and will have been dead for 4-5 years by the time they can address it. Snyder has already stated that he’s not a fan of the whole Clark Kent secret identity, saying it’s ridiculous in… Read more »

Maybe they’ll draw from that, it’s a possibility especially if they want to line-up the books with the movies to some extend.

But solving the secret identity issue isn’t impossible, even if it will require some effort on their part. Crazier things have happened in the comics and after Justice League, if the DCEU remains, they’ll probably drop the overly “realistic” approach.

I think Superman will be in Shazam.

Maybe, Henry Cavill had tequila with The Rock, maybe that’s saying he will be in Black Adam or Shazam or maybe it’s just The Rock being enthusiastic for his DCEU appearance and showing it as he does for everything he’s in.
Even if Superman has a guest appearance in either film, it’s still 3 or more years after Clark’s “death” and no real way to address his return with out hijacking the narrative to dive into that. So he should just be his movie if that’s the case.

I agree with him idea that there may be no room for Perry White in this 1st JL movie. For the 2nd one he should be there. The reunion of the Justice League will be world news and the Daily Planet won’t miss it.
I also agree that the Martha Kent/Wayne is an awesome idea. It just was horribly handled.
