Legion of Super Heroes: Episode Reviews

Season 1 - Episode 11: "Chain of Command"

This was a great all-around episode. Initially I was worried that Cosmic Boy's appearance would just be handled as if he'd been around but off-screen the entire time, and I'm glad to see that they didn't take the audience for granted there.

Then I was worried it'd simply be a case of Lightning Lad having to learn he can't always be the boss, so I was surprised again when they showed Cosmic Boy to be a less-than-perfect leader.

These are happy, happy surprises.

From the way the episode was going it was easy to tell what the outcome of the impromptu election would be, but that didn't bother me since it all played out so well. Plus I think they've got a lot of potential in Bouncing Boy and this should give him more to do and make him a more prominent figure on the show, which I think can only be a good thing.

Superman's involvement made up a good part of the episode, though I could always stand to see more. But the scene of him carrying the core into space with the musical nods to "Superman: The Animated Series" was a truly great moment from the show that I'd love to see more of.

We've also seen Lightning Lad's sister Ayla (aka Light Lass) in a flashback and now in a family photo. As she's usually a member of the Legion and due to Lightning Lad's high level of involvement with the show (not to mention their brother Mekt and now their planet, Winath) I'm left wondering why they chose to leave her out of the show. Perhaps it was a story reason we'll find out later, or perhaps it was one of those bureaucratic decisions we'll never find out the reasoning behind.

Regardless, this was a good and entertaining episode, and I like that it ended on something of a cliffhanger that leads into the two-part season finale. Bring it on.
