Legion of Super Heroes: Episode Reviews

Season 1 - Episode 3: "Legacy"

Now we're talking.

I still feel that the Timber Wolf episode was a bit of a misfire, but for all the ways that episode let me down this one made up for it.

Alexia is quite clearly a descendant of Lex Luthor, even though the Luthor name is never mentioned. And if the name "Alexia" and the red hair and the unimaginable wealth weren't enough to clinch it, all of her hair falling out certainly was.

I'm frankly intrigued and excited about the prospect of a female version of Lex (of sorts), who feels jilted by Superman choosing his friends in the Legion over her. It's a new dynamic to the Superman/Luthor rivalry and I think there's a lot of good potential there.

The action sequences were just as good as ever and are still a major highlight of the show for me. There's plenty of punching and kicking, but there's also a lot of imagination and creativity put into how the Legion members use their different powers effectively in combat and it's a lot of fun to watch. Superman also learns a little something about responsibility, which is fantastic, because at this stage he should still be learning all the time how to be the man he will become.

When you throw in the cameo appearance by Lobo (we never see his face clearly, but he's got a flying motorcycle and ghost-white skin and a gravelly voice and dresses just like Lobo) which is a great nod to fans of DC comics, this episode is a winner all the way around.
