2002 Superman Celebration
Metropolis, Illinois - Thursday the 6th through Sunday the 9th of June 2002.
This year's Superman Celebration in Metropolis is going to be one of the busiest yet. Some great events and activities are organized that are going to create some very busy people in the Council and a lot of visitors scratching their heads wondering what to do and where to go next.
The main event... the Supermuseum Auction and Awards Dinner. This year the Supermuseum has come up with its own catered event. Visitors will have a choice of entrees ranging from chicken, roast beef or ham. Everyone is being asked to purchase advance tickets to make sure they specify what type of entree they want, each ticketholder's name and where they hail from. This will be VERY IMPORTANT for your dinner menu and your commemorative lanyard. Tickets for the event are US$30, which includes admission to the auction and awards dinner, your meal and refreshments.
If anyone is wanting to place any items in the auction for sale, the organizers are trying something new this year. Even if you cannot attend the celebration, but want to put something in the auction, you can send the items directly to the Supermuseum, in care of David Olsen, and he will place them in the auction with any reserve price you would like. The more items at the auction, the more fun everyone will have. Typically there are about 120 items in the auction and this year they are hoping to raise that number to about 160, making the auction longer and more exciting for all the attendees.
During the celebration this year, there will be something very new in the City of Metropolis. Sponsored by the Supermuseum, a new clubhouse is going to be set up for all of the Superman enthusiasts coming to town. This year is going to be the ACTUAL SET OF THE DAILY PLANET FROM "THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN". Yes, the real desks, typewriters, nameplates, etc. And... it is going to be a functional Daily Planet. This means that guests can be part of the action.
This year the Supermuseum is going to sponsor, in the Daily Planet, two Superman game shows... "Who Wants to Be A Superman" and "The Weakest Kryptonite Link". Contestants will battle wits with other contestants dealing with all questions having to do with Superman and all of the DC characters. Contestants will win prizes and be announced as the Supergeniuses that they are at the Awards and Auction Dinner to all of the guests of Metropolis.
Anyone wishing to volunteer their time and services with any given projects while in Metropolis this year MUST e-mail David Olsen and let him know.
