“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” Ranks Behind “Wonder Woman 1984” on HBO Max

Snyder Cut

While “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” was watched by 1.8 million HBO Max accounts in its first five minutes (according to Samba TV), that number isn’t as fantastic as it might sound, ranking behind the 2.2 million accounts who watched “Wonder Woman 1984” when it premiered on HBO Max back in December 2020.

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” did outperform the first weekend premiere of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” from Disney+/Marvel’s, which reached 1.7 million households.

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is directed by Snyder, written by Chris Terrio and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen and J. K. Simmons. The film premiered on March 18 on HBO Max.

It’s fine. It’s a R-rated, four-hours-long movie and it’s not Christmas. Not that it matters if they don’t actually intend to continue this series in any form, but subscription numbers (new subs, specifically) are more relevant.

It wasn’t “hate watching”, it was disappointing…

WW84 was also in theaters and did well.

“certain” people tried to use this report to push the agenda that the Snyder Cut “flopped” even though it still outperformed Disney+’s The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which outperformed the premier of Disney+’s previous hit series Wandavision and Disney+’s subscription base is international while HBO Max’s is US based.

I wonder what this means for the long run. Will the number of views for this movie rise because of positive feed back from viewers or drop because of possible low interest in the movie?

Not that I’m an expert or anything, but there is no long run for this movie. If HBO got the subscribers they wanted and these subscribers find enough on the platform to stick with it over time, that’s the long run for them. Justice League is currently restricted to a single, region-locked platform and it will be moving to digital and disk in two months. Determining the success of the movie will shift to good, old-fashioned rent/sales at that point. I can’t predict the numbers, but the wider availability alone combined with the overall positive word of mouth will probably… Read more »

I don’t think so, it’s been reported that only 1/3 of those that started SC finished it.
Its a niche movie for a niche audience.
It’s not for the GA.

WW84 was available at the theaters as well. There are many people that can’t get HBOMAX. Myself included. I’m going to have to wait until the Blu-Ray comes out. There’s only so much one can do regarding this STUPID format of it being an app. These apps are a gimmick and had ATT made a HBOMAX channel available along with their other 15 HBO channels, I guarantee you there would have been many more people paying to see it.

Have there been any news of a Blu-ray release? If so, will there be any bonus features like extra unused scenes? I mean I don’t think that there would be any extra left, but I remember hearing a rumor of an alternate ending involving Leto’s Joker. I don’t know what It would be about though. Again it could be just a rumor.

Last I heard about this, the alternate takes will be in the black and white version of the movie. Not sure if that will hit HBO Max or it will be in the blu-ray or if it will be a separate blu-ray. I don’t know if the blu-ray will have extra content, but it is scheduled for release around late May.

Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt, until it comes out of official lips. I do believe Zack himself has confirmed the blu-ray release, but without any extra details.

Yeah, but WW84 was brand new, whereas the Snyder cut is a new version of a four year old movie that was not well received when it came out, so when you look at it that way, it seems like actually did quite well for what it was.

That’s weird. Screen Rant and a few other sources are reporting exactly the opposite – that ‘Justice League’ was tracking 35% higher in audience demand after its first three days of release than ‘WW84’ was in the same period. Whichever way it goes, I’m 100% sure that Zack’s movie will have more staying power, because ‘WW84’ was a massive disappointment whereas word-of-mouth for ‘ZSJL’ is overwhelmingly positive.

HBO Max has stated they will air Justice League Grey, the black and white version of Justice League. Rumor has it there will be a different Joker scene in that version, but that is just a rumor. The Black and White version has been confirmed from Zack and I believe a press release from WB.

It’s already out on HBO Max, according to the official Twitter account(s), at least.
