Zack Snyder Steps Down From “Justice League” After Family Tragedy

Zack Snyder has stepped down as Director of the “Justice League” movie after the suicide death of his daughter in March.

Zack and his wife Deborah, who is also a producer on the film, are stepping away from their work to concentrate on being with their other children during this very difficult time. “In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it. The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. And in the last two months I’ve come to the realization… I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time”, Zack Snyder told

Snyder’s daughter, Autumn Snyder, died by suicide in March at age 20. Her death has been kept private, with only a small inner circle aware of what happened, even as the movie was put on a two-week break for the Snyders to deal with the immediate effects of the tragedy.

Joss Whedon will step in to take over the reins of taking “Justice League” through the remaining post-production phase.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Snyder family at this very sad time in their lives.

This is just incredibly sad news, I hope that they can find their way through this tragedy, and find a way to some sense of normalcy

What a tragedy. So sorry for Zack and Deborah and the family. I’ve really appreciated Snyder’s work and will miss him, but I’m glad he’s putting his family first.

To think, he was already going through so much in regards to media and the press. Now, he needs to heal his spirit and be with his family. JL is not even close to being important. It’s just material. Flesh and Blood is precious…

I just left a twitter message for Zach to give my sympathies and condolences for his and his family’s loss. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now, but they’re in my thoughts and prayers.

Utterly heartbreaking news. Sincerest condolences to Zack, Deborah, Autumn’s mother and Autumn’s siblings; I can’t even begin to imagine the pain of losing a loved one, let alone your child.

i can’t express the sadness i feel for the snyder family. i lost my brother when he was 18, i was 21. personally, i’ve enjoyed the products zack has delivered, though i know he’s controversial. i feel that we are in good hands with whedon stepping in (again i know he’s also controversial). dc/marvel rivalry aside, the avengers was a pretty amazing movie, and i believe that joss can bring something to the table with snyder’s blessing that fans will love and appreciate.

Say what you want about the man. He remains with feelings and emotions. No parent should endure the loss of a child and I can’t possibly imagine what he is going through. Good call Mr. Snyder. Family comes first. To hell with making films for you made the right decision. You have my deepest sympathies and stay strong.

The death of any child to a parent is indeed a tragedy for no parent should outlive any of their children. Whilst the mainstream news reports that Zach and Deborah Synder has stepped away from final production of Justice League due to this tragedy I cannot help but feel however right or wrong I am – that the death of Autumn Synder as suicide leaves much to be desired. Now I am an internet person and Superman fan and admittedly FAR REMOVED from the circumstances and apologies to the Synder family in advance if I am wrong but what if… Read more »

Also I note a curious statement on a recent video segment Fatman on Batman that “we wrested control from Zach Synder” if I heard that then true.
