Currently the rumor is there is big movement in the background for Snyder’s JL to be released or announced for release soon.

Considering that HBO Max will be a reality next year and WB is spending millions of dollars creating new content and shows just for the streaming service, there is no excuse not to spend the money necessary to bring Zack Snyder’s Justice League to worldwide release. Spend whatever is necessary to finish the movie ($10M?) and release it on HBO Max. The Snyder cut would also be a great marketing ploy for the streaming service. Just make it happen WB/DC Films.

This would be my guess as to how it’s going to go down. That would certainly attract the fandom. Maybe they’ll announce when they absorb the Dc Streaming universe.

Hardly seems worth it. The only thing I’d be interested in seeing would be the complete Snyder vision – two movies, with Darkseid as the ultimate villain – and that’s just never going to happen. I really don’t see how Snyder recutting ‘JL’ and adding in a bit more footage would make Steppenwolf any less terrible or Superman’s resurrection any less half-baked (unless – as Snyder may be hinting now – that wasn’t really Superman). Also, Ben Affleck was phoning in his performance as Batman, and his character was barely recognizable compared with ‘BvS’. ‘JL’ was just a disaster, and… Read more »

Yeah, that’s been the online “rumor” for 2 years.
The HBOmax thing was started by a guy named Louis Centeno who is some some random Twitter guy making up rumors for attention.
It worked too.

So does this mean that Snyder’s version is coming out? And If not, then why release these images? I’ve been hearing both yes and no to the question of there being a Snyder cut coming out. Does anyone have a definite answer?

He’s been releasing behind the scenes images for years.
He’s just sharing some behind the scenes BvS photos.
Remember his original JL idea was Knightmare universe where Superman was brought back as a villain.
Yall read WAY too much into things.
Occam’s razor is a better way to go about it.

I don’t remember anything related to him being brought back as a villain. And I don’t believe ZS was making his JL an exact comic version.

Then you didn’t see BvS?
The whole Knightmare scene was setting up what Zack wanted to do. Have Superman be the villain alongside Darkseid.

Yay! Another crap version of the character to look forward to. Between this and the whole revealing of his identity in the comics, the Wb and DC comics really do not care about the character at all. They seem intent on stripping any sense of joy and originality from him. Man, people make fun of his red trunk look but that walking action figure look above is supposed to be better? It looks like it would squeak when he walks!

The only thing I agree with you about is that Cavill’s costume in that picture (which I think is the BvS costume) looks way too plastic. The costume in ‘Man of Steel’ was much better – my absolute favourite live-action look for Superman, actually.

And much as I love the Donner movies and the classic uniform in the comics – the trunks look silly on film. They just do.

Ok, so the trunks look silly to you but how is that fundamentally different from the attempts without. It’s silly with trunks but all of a sudden it’s a serious, majestic work of art without? There’s no way you can fight the plain truth that it just looks better balanced with it on. It just looks “right”. Hell, they gave Batman his trucks back as well. None of these superhero costumes work in real life without millions of dollars worth of lighting, cinematography or cgi. Every time they try to add details and complicated his suit, it just seems to… Read more »

Yeah it’s not 1978 but what costume is he wearing in the comics now? Except for the cuffs it’s the traditional suit. It’s been 40 years and the majority of the audience, critics still hold that as the best depiction of the character and it was the most financially successful. I’ll agree after the first one they dropped the ball with the terrible sequels but with the new version they couldn’t even give the guy a spit curl. I mean how hard is that to do? But all of that is window dressing and could have been easily ignored if… Read more »

Believe me the world was the same in 78, perhaps even more darker and violent. Look at the majority of films in that decade. Yet films like Star Wars and Superman came out. Man of Steel was directed by a Michael Bay frat boy like director who seems to have a love for a Ayn Rand world view and applied that to Superman.

You’re kidding right? 78 wasn’t anything like today. Unlike today where people are connected to everything, back then people were connected to nothing except through newspapers, certain TV shows and magazines.

I meant the time period was way darker than today. In terms of cinema and people’s overall attitude about society. Yet amongst all those various post apocalyptic sci-fi movies, gangster movies and horror movies of the era something like Star Wars and Superman shone through. You have to know your audience and WB has been especially obtuse in this regard. This is why Marvel are so successful they understand the nature of their characters. WB just want to use their existing IPs and overlap them on what they think is edgy, but it’s just ugly and sad.

My guess (which is as good as anybody’s right now): the ‘Superman’ who was revived in ‘Justice League’ was not the real Kal-El, but an artificial construct of Kryptonian technology – something like the Eradicator – created to temporarily fill in for the real Superman while his body regenerates. I mean, the whole theory that the crashed Kryptonian ship could instantaneously resurrect Kal-El, after he’d been poisoned by kryptonite, skewered through the chest by one of Doomsday’s massive bone spikes and buried in a coffin for god only knows how long, was absurd. Batman pulled that dumb idea out of… Read more »

Fun theory, but you’re overthinking this. Snyder’s caption is just a jab that his Justice League is the real one and that he never got to finish what he started. Which may or may not mean WB is considering releasing his cut, but which either way still means the DCEU as we knew it is dead.

Oh yeah it’s dead as a cohesive whole. They’ll do stand alone films that may or may not be linked. We now live in a world where the first Aquaman film made more money than Man of Steel.

Well yea because Aquaman was an origin movie. And origin’s always get a new audience and then some. And Aquaman had a whole new level of effects being in the water. Frankly it deserved the money it made.

I’m pretty optimistic it will see the light of day someday. I agree with LarGand about seeing the two parter with Darkseid though I’m pretty certain that we won’t see it at all unless it’s in animated or comic book form. Who knows? It’s just a matter of time until WB knows that they have shot themselves in the foot and the dvd/blueray/vod sales will prove profitable for them and please us fans for waiting a while longer. I for one am reaalllly intrigued how the snyder cut differs from the theatrical cut. Probably by a million miles away.

Superman2878
November 16, 2019 11:36 am

I’ve heard people say or speculate that Snyder’s version is widely different from the theatrical version of JL, but just how much footage was deleted, reshot, or never used? Were there any scenes that they didn’t film or didn’t complete?
Are we talking 80% to 90% different from the theatrical version?

All what you’re saying have been the issues. Zack has said there is a cut. BUT what has not been revealed is what’s missing to make it a complete movie. Recently Jason M (Aquaman himself) has admitted to seeing the cut and has gone on record that it needs to be seen. At the very least to see how different it was from what they trashed or manipulated Zack’s version into.

I just think it’s putting the horse before the cart. If they had half a brain they would introduce a new version of Superman on a big budget HBO Max show. Establish him and his supporting cast there and then dovetail into movie releases for the really big stories if the show is popular enough. Hell, do that for most of the big guns of DC, 8 to 10 episodes a year. Flesh them and their worlds out then it all culminates into a JLA movie. That would be a different approach than Marvel without having to resort to the… Read more »

We had nothing before that as well. Singer got the same treatment as Snyder which led to an entirely new direction. There’s really not to many new and different ways you can do this character. Sure, there are certain lines and sequences that we’ve never seen or heard before and if outside the expected areas the squawking turns into a never ending battle over them. They make the character one way and people bitch their brains out. They make the character another way and people bitch their brains out. Snyder’s job was to take this character in a whole different… Read more »

We don’t need new and different ways to bring him to life. Heart and hope are the cornerstone of the character, stick to that and the movie will succeed. That was the secret to the Reeve’s movies, that’s why that, to this day, people still praise them. It’s not comedy, we do’t need jokes, the movie can absolutely be serious. Returns’ problem was that it was boring. Outside of 3 scenes all we got was Superman moping around and spying on Lois. There were a lot of callbacks to Reeves, but tonally it wasn’t the same. It was too dark,… Read more »

That’s pretty spot on! Returns had just a facade of Donner’s Superman. They tried to shoe in all that abandonment stuff with Lois and it didn’t sit well with the audience. Superman came off really creepy. The audience want him to be a hero, they want to soar with him, not wallow in self pity. Jesus, if Marvel can make Captain America work not only domestically but internationally this should be easy. Let that sink in, people in Russia and China were cheering on a guy literally dressed up in the American flag!

And the direction Zack took the character did not work… unfortunately… I say it that way because I would have loved to see a new Superman movie franchise. As for the new Superman Lois show, the personal drama stuff is needed to keep the show going more then one season. This site with its 200 or 300 members who do all agree the personal stuff is taken too far does not make up enough of a audience to keep the show running. And as I have stated before, Tyler makes a good Superman, more people than not both on this… Read more »

Disagree, sman1938. In my opinion, “nothing is what we have” because the studio panicked after ‘Man of Steel’ only made a mountain of cash instead of an entire planetoid, then their interference prevented Snyder from making the movie series he had hoped to, leading directly to the ‘Justice League’ debacle.

I see your point, but the studio also panicked because reviews by both critics (I don’t like critics personally but they are part of how movies are judged) and many fans were not happy with the dark direction the films were heading. Shazam did not make a lot of money, but fans and critics loved the movie and the direction it went. So Shazam and Black Adam will keep being made because of the confidence the studio has it will make money in the future. BVS was really were they lost confidence in Zack and his vision, that movie staring… Read more »

Matter of opinion, MattComics. ‘Man of Steel’ is my favourite ‘Superman’ movie – and I grew up loving the Donner/Reeve Superman. I think Snyder was really onto something until the studio started shoving its oar in, and I would still really, really love a proper ‘MoS’ sequel.
