Would Michael Shannon Return to Play Zod in Supergirl Movie?

Zod

In a recent interview with the Gold Coast Bulletin, actor Michael Shannon was asked if he’d be interested in returning to play the role of General Zod if the upcoming “Supergirl” movie called for it.

“Wow, that’s interesting. I swear to God, I am not kidding — you are breaking this news to me,” he admitted. “I will have to look into that. Zod again? I don’t know — it’s been a while. I am a little older and creakier now — I’m not sure I could do all the moves.”

“Also, I have to say in complete and utter seriousness that I just loved working with Zack Snyder and that was a big part of it for me,” Shannon continued. “I don’t know who’s making this Supergirl movie but I really treasure that experience with Zack. He’s a hell of a guy.”

Originally reported to begin filming in early 2020, there has been no recent movement on the “Supergirl” movie, which was alleged to be looking at a 2021 release date. Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox) was reported to be writing a screenplay.

I actually would like to see some other Superman villain. We’ve seen Zod in Man of Steel, a hallucination Zod at the end of season two of Supergirl, and in Krypton. I would like to see Brainiac, Parasite, Bizzaro, Conduit, Darkside, or the Eradicator as a villain for a Superman movie.

Amen! I completely agree! General Zod is great and all, but it’s time to see other villains. Brainiac and Parasite are my 2 choices for the next Superman movie.

They have got to quit leaning on Zod and Luthor every time they want to make a movie. Also going to back to Snyder isn’t going to help anything either.

Let us hope they DON’T make this movie. We have enough female token-izing going on throughout the entire entertainment industry as it is. (and it’s getting old)

Why would they bring Zod into a Supergirl movie (unless it was to fill out some background on Krypton before it explodes, in which case you’d need a younger actor)? If you’re going to make a movie – or a TV show – called ‘Supergirl’, then why do writers keep having to fall back on villains and stories that are originally Superman’s? It feels as if Superman is, slowly but surely, being completely replaced by a character that never really established a compelling story of her own in the comics.

Simply put, if WB can’t get Superman right in a movie then why should anyone trust them to get Supergirl right?

I think they should bring back Brandon Routh for a stand alone movie trilogy. The fans love his Superman and he be willing to play the role again. They could even do a multiverse crossover where his Superman meets Cavill’s version. It is now possible thanks to the recent winter crossover. They both have a big fan following and a movie with both versions of Superman could be very successful.
Bring back Brandon Routh WB!
😀

It’s been a little while since I’ve said it, but I just had to say it. 🙂
Brandon Routh for Superman! 😀

I think both Henry’s and Brandon’s versions were hindered by the writing staff and the lack of faith in the character. Singer proved to be one of throes ‘fans’ whose only knowledge of the character is the Donner films. I don’t blame either actor at all and I feel that both could have been great if given half a chance.

You do have a good point about Brandon and how he did his best with the script that he was working with in Superman Returns sundevil82. And by no means was Brandon the problem in Superman Returns. He gave a stellar performance as Superman. And that he can be a great Superman apart from the traditional Reeve Superman formula. I believe that the evidence of that was shown in the crossover and how great he is at the role of Superman. In my opinion he stole the spotlight as Superman in the crossover event, even from himself since he also played… Read more »

I agree that he stole every scene he was in. And I was disappointed when they wrote him out

Yeah I was disappointed that his Superman was taken out of the rest of the crossover as well. At least they left the door open for his Superman to return. I’ve been advocating that they let him be Superman again for every possible possibility. Here’s a list on how they could bring him back. 1. A movie trilogy. 2. A tv series to guest star in such as Superman and Lois and Supergirl’s series, he could even show up every year as Superman for each crossover. 3. He could have a full Superman series or limited series ( I prefer… Read more »

I wouldn’t mind if they did a proper Superman movie with cavill where he passed the mantle leading into her own movie, but this seems like they’re just doing it just for the sake of doing it. And I’m not interested if they’re just going to continue to mine the Superman mythos.
