Wolé Parks Talks About His Real Role on “Superman & Lois”

SPOILER WARNING! Last night’s episode of “Superman & Lois” revealed the true identity of “The Stranger” who we thought was “Captain Luthor”. If you haven’t seen the episode, be warned, the following interview reveals actor Wolé Parks’ character’s real name.

While we were lead to believe that “Captain Luthor” was Lex Luthor from another earth, we now know that he is actually John Henry Irons.

In the comic books, Irons was a construction worker who was saved by Superman during Doomsday’s initial rampage across America. Irons used his second chance at life to honor Superman by becoming the superhero known as Steel.

In the “Superman & Lois” version of the character, John Henry Irons was married to Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The two had a daughter named Natalie, but when Superman turned evil and began destroying their world, Lois went on air to tell the world that Superman’s weakness was a rock from his home planet… Superman appears to have killed that Lois live on air during the telecast.

In an interview with TVline.com, actor Wolé Parks talks about the moment he found out who his character was. He said, “When they told me I was going to be playing John Henry Irons, I was overwhelmed, a little emotional. I remember growing up with him, but it’s not just me anymore. There are other kids who grew up with this [character], and there are kids growing up now who will know a different version of it. The responsibility is crazy. This is by far my most important role, if I want to phrase it that way, and I don’t take that lightly.”

The episode revealed a bit more of Iron’s version of earth, but Wolé admits there’s more to see. “We’re not done seeing John Henry Irons’ world — and that encompasses a lot of things.”

Spoiler warning don’t read my comment unless you have already seen the episode. OK, now that I’ve given fair enough warning here are my thoughts on the reveal . First, I want to say that as a whole I enjoyed last night’s episode of Superman and Lois. Especially Tyler‘s portrayal as the man of steel. I always enjoy Tyler‘s version of Superman. However, there is one thing that I didn’t like about last night’s… Read more »

While initially I was disappointed about Wolé Parks character change, I went back and read what he said about now being in the role of John Henry Irons, I’m positive that he will make an excellent version of Steel. I didn’t think I would change my mind about it that fast. Who knows! Maybe the Lex Luthor from his universe will show up and so Steel and Superman will have to team up to face him. I just hope that they let superman solo his heroing for the rest of the first season before steel decides to hero in as… Read more »

It’s nice to read that Wolé Parks has such admiration for Steel and that he means a lot to him. I’m sure he will be perfect in the role and I look forward to seeing him officially play Steel in the near future. 🙂
