Will Zack Snyder Release a Director’s Cut of “Man of Steel”?

Man of Steel

With all the talk about Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” coming to HBO Max in 2021, the director recently participated in an interview with Film Junkee Vodka Stream, where he addressed the idea of releasing a longer version of “Man of Steel”.

When asked about the idea of a Director’s Cut of the 2013 film, Snyder stated that the movie was pretty much “exactly what I wanted to do.”

“There was only a few scenes that we deleted… it wasn’t anything that I think would change the movie. That movie is pretty much, it is what it is, and I love it… It’s kind of exactly the size that it was, for me, that I wanted it to be.”

Premiering on June 27, 2013, “Man of Steel” stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy.

Well, he got to release his visions for Watchmen, BVS, and the forthcoming JL, so why not?

Me, personally, though, I love MOS just the way it is. So unless those deleted scenes leave out important story details, which they do not as stated by the man himself, I say let sleeping dogs lie…

Yea…..I thought it was pretty complete as it was. I wouldn’t think there’s anything he could add that would make it more so.

Agreed. Move along. Nothing new to see here. Would be far more interested in what Zack knows about a Man of Steel 2 and what JJ Abrams is up to regarding our favorite hero.

No sequel to MoS was unfortunately where they blew it. But the bottom line right now is that there’s big time management and financial turmoil going in within the WB network. (Disney’s there as well) I wouldn’t count on ANY new big budget movies coming our way any time soon. The closest we’re going to get is the Snyder JL.

I don’t see the need for it, to be honest. I love ‘Man of Steel’, I think it told a compelling story giving a new take on Superman and I think it told it beautifully. The visual impact of that movie is still intense, with some fantastic set pieces – I challenge anyone, even people who complain about this version of Superman, to watch the ‘First Flight’ scene and not be blown away by it. The battle of Smallville was perfection, and the final battle with Zod was unlike anything people had seen in cinema before. The first time I… Read more »

I think the film by itself is pretty OK as it is. I didn’t see anything that needs to be extended or changed.

Althoooouugghhhhhh I suggest filming an alternative ending to please fans. Instead of killing Zod, he might as well send him back to the phantom zone.

Yeah, unlike BvS, it was always pretty obvious that MoS was the director’s cut from the start. The things that would alleviate some of the film’s problems they never shot (because the script is a trash fire, thank you David) and, if anything, a few things could use trimming in the theatrical cut as it is. I don’t see what else they could’ve really shot that would make this particular movie more complete. Some things obviously get cut, but there’s usually a reason for that. I remember that something like 80% of BvS footage never made it past principal and… Read more »
