Will Henry Cavill Appear as Superman in “Shazam!” Sequel?

Shazam

According to Variety.com, Henry Cavill will not appear as Superman in the “Shazam!” sequel as previously rumored.

With Superman appearing at the end of the original “Shazam” movie (although it was a body double, not Henry Cavill himself), rumors have been circulating that Henry Cavill has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to make a cameo appearance as Superman in an upcoming film. Many speculated that that appearance would be in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the production and Cavill’s schedule confirmed to Variety that the actor would not be donning the blue tights and red cape for the “Shazam!” sequel. Although director David F. Sandberg would not confirm or deny the report stating on Twitter, “Not going to comment on casting rumors for several reasons. One being you can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened. Halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end.”

Adding, “My non-answers are just that, not answers. I don’t even bother with trying to debunk things anymore, no matter how untrue.”

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is expected to premiere in June 2023.

Good news. Shazam is a second tier character and Superman should NOT be reduced to making guest appearances. THEY make guest appearances in his movies.

That’s good, I much rather Superman not appearing in that movie than him being mindwashed into fighting Shazam.

I’d prefer his own movie, but it’s not looking promising and I’m losing hope. Especially if JJ takes the helm.

As much as I agree about him not appearing in other people’s films, it would be a good way to get him back in the public eye and garner interest for the character.

It’s looking more and more like they’re going to move away from Henry’s Superman, unfortunately.

These big money movies are being challenged when it comes to making money. The WB hasn’t been able to re-coup on it’s last few big money attempts. I’m not even sure if they’re breaking even. As far as Henry goes, he’d probably have to be brought back into a whole different world than Snyder’s. As much as I can’t stand what’s going on right now, the next version of Superman might very well be forced to pacify and include every group that’ll cry foul if not included. One of the major reasons I’m looking forward to ZS JL is because… Read more »

I don’t know about JJ. Was he going on his own vision for Star Wars or was he going by what Kathleen Kennedy’s and Disney’s vision was or lack there of for Star Wars? I ask this question because would he be doing his own thing when it comes to Superman or would he continuing Snyder’s vision? If he does his own thing, then I would assume that would mean a recasting of the role of Superman. I’m not sure he would want to be in Snyder’s shadow. But on the other hand, he didn’t recast the roles of Luke,Han,… Read more »

It does seem as though they are, but Henry never landed squarely with audiences.
And while having a Superman show doesn’t necessarily mean anything, it does seem like DC is just going different places with the character and a 2024/5 movie is the soonest I would expect another solo movie.
So I’d say it wouldn’t make much sense to bring back the guy from 7 or 8 years ago to a totally new creative team.

Either he will or he won’t. We’ll know soon enough.
He needs to be in the movie. Someone powerful needs to show the real Captain Marvel how to be the hero he really is.
