According to Variety.com, Henry Cavill will not appear as Superman in the “Shazam!” sequel as previously rumored.
With Superman appearing at the end of the original “Shazam” movie (although it was a body double, not Henry Cavill himself), rumors have been circulating that Henry Cavill has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to make a cameo appearance as Superman in an upcoming film. Many speculated that that appearance would be in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”.
Two sources with direct knowledge of the production and Cavill’s schedule confirmed to Variety that the actor would not be donning the blue tights and red cape for the “Shazam!” sequel. Although director David F. Sandberg would not confirm or deny the report stating on Twitter, “Not going to comment on casting rumors for several reasons. One being you can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened. Halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end.”
Adding, “My non-answers are just that, not answers. I don’t even bother with trying to debunk things anymore, no matter how untrue.”
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is expected to premiere in June 2023.
Good news. Shazam is a second tier character and Superman should NOT be reduced to making guest appearances. THEY make guest appearances in his movies.
