Next week, the world gets to see Superman soar again; and if you’re a true fan of the Man of Steel, you should be in that theater. Yes, even if James Gunn’s style isn’t your thing. Even if you’ve had mixed feelings about DC’s latest decisions or business moves. Because when it comes down to it, this is bigger than one movie, one director, or even one studio strategy. This is about the legacy of Superman.

Superman is more than just a character. He’s a symbol; a beacon of hope, resilience, and kindness in a world that desperately needs it. And every time a new movie is released, it’s a chance to introduce him to a whole new generation. A chance to keep his story alive in the public consciousness. If we want our kids, grandkids, and great-great-grandkids to grow up with new Superman stories; on the big screen, on TV, in animation, in games; then showing up now matters.

Obviously, this movie is going to do well at the box office. It’s Superman. It’s James Gunn. But if we want to see more Superman stories; more sequels, more spin-offs, more animated specials; this film needs to do as well as it possibly can. The bigger the success, the louder the message to studios and creatives everywhere: people still care deeply about Superman, and he’s worth investing in for the long haul.

We don’t have to love every creative decision. We don’t even have to agree with every casting or plot choice. But support means showing that there is a demand for Superman content; that we, the fans, care. That we want Clark Kent’s story told again and again in new and bold ways, so he stays relevant and inspiring for generations to come.

So next week, let’s rally. Let’s fill those seats. Let’s show the world that Superman still matters; and always will. Because the best way to keep our favorite hero flying high is to support him in the biggest way possible: together.

I think it’s a slippery slope for this website to start dividing Superman fans into those who are “True” fans and those who aren’t based on their preferred Superman comics, shows and movies. There are a lot of people who say they weren’t Superman fans until they encountered a specific piece of Superman media which often ends up remaining their preferred interpretation of the character. Whether it’s George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean… Read more »

I can see your point of view on the “true Superman fans should see this film” title and why you think it’s a questionable title. However, I believe that true Superman fans should not boycott this film. I believe it’s ok to voice out doubts and criticisms for this new film. That’s not the issue I have. The issue I have is for a certain small group of unreasonable people who call themselves superman fans but want this movie to fail by calling a boycott of it because it’s not the version of Superman that they want.
