In our latest Superman Poll we asked you the following question:
How would you rate the “Superman/Spider-Man #1” comic book?
The results tell a story that validates the concerns I raised in my recent “Big Blue Report” newsletter. A striking 44% of fans selected “I haven’t read it yet but I plan to.” This is the dominant response, and it raises an important question: how many of those readers “wanted” to read it on release day but couldn’t access it digitally?
Among those who have read it, the reception is overwhelmingly positive. “5/5 – Excellent!” leads with 26% of the votes, while “4/5 – Good” earned 8%. Combined, that’s 34% rating it positively—impressive numbers that suggest the book delivers on its promise when fans can actually get their hands on it.
But let’s return to that 44% who haven’t read it yet. This book’s physical-only release actively excludes a significant portion of the modern comic-reading audience. The poll results suggest nearly half of DC’s regular readers were interested enough to vote but haven’t accessed the book yet—some undoubtedly because they’re digital-only collectors waiting for a release that may come weeks too late.
The timing matters. Comics thrive on shared cultural moments. When Superman and Spider-Man team up for the first time in decades, fans want to experience it together, discuss it immediately, and be part of the conversation while it’s happening. Forcing digital readers to wait isn’t just inconvenient—it’s exclusionary.

In a single story, DC treated Spider-Man with more respect than Marvel has done in recent years.
