Why is Zack Snyder Remastering “Batman v Superman”?

BvS

Zack Snyder has been busy lately. Not only is the director readying his version of “Justice League” for its (apparent) March premiere on HBO Max, but it appears he’s also been hard at work preparing a remastered version of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.

We don’t know at this point in time where or when this version of the film will be released, or why Snyder felt the need to remaster the film with a different aspect ratio. An “Ultimate Edition” of the film was released on Blu-ray, featuring 30 additional minutes of previously unseen footage that helped fill out some plot holes.

Snyder posted a video on his Vero social media account showing an early portion of the film’s “Knightmare” scene featuring Ben Affleck as Batman. The footage is shown in the longer 1.43:1 aspect ration as opposed to the film’s original 2.35:1 ratio. The clip is also considerably lighter, with a different color grading.

I honestly don’t care. I loved BVS UE and I would in any format so long as I can see everything I need to see in a scene. Of course, great quality isn’t something to cough or sneeze at, so I say, go for it, Zack!

Oh damn. I was going to dismiss this as completely inconsequential tweaking, but it actually makes a difference. Huh, I’d actually like to watch this.

He has to be stopped!! Can we file for a restraining order; he has to keep 100 yards away from Superman at all times?!

Things that can’t be polished.

Well….they’ve been busy “polishing” on the CW.

While the theatrical version left me somewhat baffled I enjoyed it for what it was. Then came the ultimate edition, which I liked even more. But this!?!? Kinda curious how that will turn out.

I wonder if he is re-using some of the content of B vs S in the new Justice League Snyder Cut.

I really like BvS, but I’m mostly just confused by this. I’m already a mite concerned that the 1.43:1 ratio for JL is just gonna look like 4:3 on my regular, non IMAX, relatively low-res tv, and I’m not convinced the new BvS color grading looks that different either. I’ll probably get it, when it comes out anyway…

I can only think of one question about this. Will Steppenwolf look the way he will in Snyder’s JL or will he still look the way that he did in the extended B v S film? Because I heard that Steppenwolf doesn’t look the way he did in B v S extended cut.

I would expect this to be a direct continuation, format wise of BvS. It’s the way he intended it to be. I predict that after this is released we’re not if ever, going to see another superhero story made in this context. For me at least, that is the area I’m looking most forward to.
