Warner Archive Release Special Edition “Supergirl” Movie on Blu-Ray

Warner Archive is now taking orders for their special edition Blu-ray release of the 1984 “Supergirl” movie.

The two disc release not only includes the film’s International Cut remastered in High Definition on Blu-ray, but it also contains the rare Director’s Cut on a bonus DVD.

Ilya and Alexander Salkind continue to bring the lore and legend behind the World’s Greatest Super Hero to the big screen in this follow-up to the beloved Christopher Reeve Superman films. Helen Slater (in her screen debut) stars as the sensational Supergirl! Though Superman grew up believing himself to be the Last Son of Krypton, part of his home planet survived: Argo City, home of his uncle, Zor-El (Simon Ward), and Zor-El’s wife, Alura (Mia Farrow). Saved by the wizardry of Zaltar (Peter O’Toole) and the Omegahedron, their daughter Kara comes of age as a Kryptonian when a disaster whisks the Omegahedron to her cousin’s adoptive planet, Earth. Dispatched to rescue it from the clutches of the evil sorceress Selena (Faye Dunaway), Kara must tackle a steep learning curve so that she can pass the test as both mild-mannered schoolgirl Linda Lee and Supergirl!

Scheduled to ship on July 24, you can order your Special Edition “Supergirl” Blu-Ray from WBshop.com.

As far as the overall looks department is concerned…
… A young Helen Slater had Supergirl down pat – hair color and all was perfect!!

It’s kind of like with Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. Perfectly cast and costumed, both actresses brought a sincerity to the part despite the material they were given.

If nothing else you could at least believe them as being those heroes.

I’d buy Supergirl on blurry, I enjoyed the film despite the not so great villains. Flying effects, music score, Slater are enough to still enjoy this film plus the Reeve films connection.

Yes, HelenS looked great. But…that’s about all it had going for it. I bought it about 4 years ago and I was in disbelief as to how I thought I had remembered it. Having to sit through it again would be torture! If there’s one thing I could say that would be a positive, it would be that the costume she’s wearing should be… Read more »
