Upcoming Special Screening of “Superman II” in New York

Superman fans in New York have the opportunity to see Superman II on the big screen on August 24th, 2019 at 9:30pm, when The Little theater in Rochester will be screening the classic cinematic battle between Superman and General Zod.

As part of their Saturday Night Rewind series, The Little screens genre films with a throwback feeling, according to their site, and Superman II is their choice for this month. From The Little’s website:

Superman (Christopher Reeve) foils the plot of terrorists by hurtling their nuclear device into outer space, but the bomb’s shock waves free the Kryptonian villain General Zod (Terence Stamp) and his henchmen Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran) from their imprisonment. Traveling to Earth, they threaten the planet with destruction at the same time that Superman decides to renounce his superpowers in order to live a normal life as Clark Kent with his new love, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder).

General admission tickets are priced at $9. Visit DiamondTicketing.com to purchase a ticket now!

I would assume that this is the original version directed by Lester. There was a remarkable tonal difference between Donner’s cut and what Lester did. The main part missing from Lester’s was Brando’s Jor El.(MB’s fault) But if there was one thing that Lester did better it would have to be the Eiffel Tower save scene.

I often wish the WB could make an interactive DVD that had both Donner and Lester footage and had a menu that would allow you to pick from both versions to effectively assemble your own custom cut for Superman II. Granted you would still be stuck with a choice between either the amnesia kiss or turning back time again.

One other point. As much as I like SupermanII there were some very questionable scenes in various places throughout the movie.

But yes….a “custom” cut made from both would be great. And there were several cut scenes that would be great to edit back in as well.
