Superman fans in New York have the opportunity to see Superman II on the big screen on August 24th, 2019 at 9:30pm, when The Little theater in Rochester will be screening the classic cinematic battle between Superman and General Zod.
As part of their Saturday Night Rewind series, The Little screens genre films with a throwback feeling, according to their site, and Superman II is their choice for this month. From The Little’s website:
Superman (Christopher Reeve) foils the plot of terrorists by hurtling their nuclear device into outer space, but the bomb’s shock waves free the Kryptonian villain General Zod (Terence Stamp) and his henchmen Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran) from their imprisonment. Traveling to Earth, they threaten the planet with destruction at the same time that Superman decides to renounce his superpowers in order to live a normal life as Clark Kent with his new love, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder).

I would assume that this is the original version directed by Lester. There was a remarkable tonal difference between Donner’s cut and what Lester did. The main part missing from Lester’s was Brando’s Jor El.(MB’s fault) But if there was one thing that Lester did better it would have to be the Eiffel Tower save scene.
