A passing reference in a recent Variety piece about the Warner Bros. Discovery sale saga may have quietly revealed a title update for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel.
In reporting on the M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) uncertainty facing WBD staff, Variety noted that DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have production “about to start in a few weeks on Superman: Man of Tomorrow” — the first time the film has been referred to with the “Superman:” prefix attached.
The project has previously been known simply as “Man of Tomorrow”, so it’s worth asking: is this an official title change, or just a slip by Variety‘s writers who added the superhero’s name for clarity? It wouldn’t be the first time a trade publication inadvertently tipped a title update — nor the first time a journalist added a clarifying prefix that was never actually part of the official name.
Either way, the core news remains encouraging for DC fans: Gunn and Safran appear safe in their roles regardless of who ends up buying WBD, with the film gearing up to shoot imminently and “The Batman” sequel potentially following by late May.
UPDATE: Director James Gunn confirmed via his Threads social media account that the title has not changed, and remains simply “Man of Tomorrow”.
“Man of Tomorrow” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Filming is scheduled to begin this April in Atlanta.
