From the beginning I have really liked Hoechin even though I realized in the crossover that the man is short lol. I thought he embodied the Comic Book Superman/Clark Kent pretty good, and he had his Christopher Reeve moments that I really liked. I for one am super excited about the Superman and Lois show. But I wouldn’t mind a Brandon Superman show on the DC Universe App or HBO Max that would be awesome! The more Supermen I see the better and the more exposure he’s going to get. The more exposure means more popularity. I mean let’s face… Read more »

Great video Steve as always , I’m very excited for this new Superman and Lois TV series. I like Tyler Hoechlin as Superman / Clark Kent I always have since his 1st appearances in Supergirl also in the 2 crossovers Elseworlds and Crisis On Infinite Earths he is great in the role with the limited screen time he has had as Superman so hopefully he can shine as Supes in his own series. I get it fans want a new Superman movie or a HBO Max Superman series I get that but a new Superman TV series coming sign me… Read more »

Well said from my fellow members who have posted before me. 🙂 I like Tyler as Superman. He’s a good Superman. He’s not my favorite Superman actor, but he’s done a good job for what he has been given so far for the Superman role. Granted that his version does need some fixing, but I believe that with the right story and script, Tyler’s Superman can be an even better Superman. I’m looking forward to seeing further adventures of his Superman and Lois as well. And one more thing, We need a Brandon Routh Superman series too WB. Please give… Read more »

Since Clark’s powers have never been(nor should they be) based on strict earth-defined physicality, I can see just about anyone in the role (with exceptions like Danny Divito. Great guy, but not a Superman contender). I prefer a superman who is not the size of Dwayne Johnson and actually the more “average” the guy is that dons the cape, the more I buy into it.

I really like the muscles. It just looks amazing in the suit. But I do agree with you about how an average guy could just as believably don the cape. I have always thought it was funny that Superman was so buff, considering how little effort/strength he needs to put into just about everything he does. I think it would be fun for writers to spend more time showing all the little things Supes has to consider in his day-to-day life, like how lightly he has to turn a door knob to not break it – that kind of thing.… Read more »

I really like the muscles. True, I definitely don’t want someone scrawny in their either. I think a decent “athletic look” is a good happy medium. Like Grant Gustin being Superman? ehhh probably not… But Stephen Amell? Could’ve totally bought that. I think it would be fun for writers to spend more time showing all the little things Supes has to consider in his day-to-day life, like how lightly he has to turn a door knob to not break it – that kind of thing. I think Tyler has done a good job with his performance, and as an actor, he’s brought the role of Clark/Superman to life in a new and exciting way. Most of the debate, however, is about his “look” and I think when he’s compared to previous actors, he’s not as muscular and far less broad, so ultimately, he just looks leaner on camera. For a lot of people, Superman should have a very built, muscular look. Tyler is on the taller side, but that doesn’t come through as clearly on camera, because most of the cast is on the taller… Read more »

I’ve liked Tyler’s Superman since he was introduced and the only time I’ve ever had a problem (aside from aspects of his costume design) is basically in the writing when I felt like the shows were trying too hard to prevent him from over-shadowing Kara or other characters. To me the easiest way to ensure that Superman doesn’t overshadow Kara on her own show is to never make a competition out of it in the first place and I think that’s the mistake they’ve been making to greater or lesser degree. Yes if it’s her show she gets priority and… Read more »

Ok, I guess I have to be “that guy”. I grew up with Christopher Reeves being Superman…full stop. Then Dean Cain was my TV Superman. Both of which were supplanted by Smallville which is by FAR the best and most complete depiction of Clark. I say that to say this. I have always 100% rejected Supergirl’s Superman.he is beyond the shadow of a doubt the worst Superman I have ever seen in my lifetime. From the look to the character itself. His very presence in the role is an insult to the role and all the great ways it was… Read more »

Do you think, if the suit was more classic-looking (trunks, traditional cape, maybe even a lighter blue), and if he had a stronger presence, that he wouldn’t be your least favorite? I am a die-hard fan of Reeve, and Routh is a close second, but I wonder if you would feel differently if those things were changed? These CW shows are pretty good about giving us new-ish costumes every year. I keep hoping that with the reappearance of his red trunks in the comics, and the fans loving Routh’s Kingdom Come version so much, that maybe the writers will realize… Read more »

Great video!!! And I wholeheartedly agree. I want a Man Of Steel 2, but this will be great in the meantime. – And it is a shame that the writers think they have to keep putting Superman down to prop up Supergirl. I hope they put a stop to that once Superman gets his own CW series. I think it’s just bad writing.

I’m looking forward to seeing this upcoming series as well Man-O-Steel. 🙂 As for Superman being put down, I do agree that it’s bad that they have done that when he had appeared on Supergirl’s show and that they shouldn’t have done that, however I don’t believe that they would do that to him on his own show. Supergirl won’t be the star of Superman’s series. So she won’t overshadow his importantance as a Superhero on a weekly basis. Tyler could build up his status as Superman while fighting supervillians that we haven’t been seen before. Villains like Mongul, Eradicator,… Read more »

I don’t mind Hoechlin and never have. My problem is with the writing in many ways, not the least of which is this basic, “oh I’ve seen Superman The Movie once” understanding of the character. Superman is a lot more than the occasionally clumsy, too polite cardboard cutout. And of course the whole “Superman is a jobber” attitude bothers me as well. They could’ve prevented him upstaging Kara in many ways, but they actively chose to tear into Superman’s very character. This goes beyond propping up Kara in her own show, it shows disrespect for the material, especially because they… Read more »

You do bring up a lot of good points NeoRanger. And like you I believe that the writing is the problem. I like Tyler. I think that he’s a good Superman. Not my favorite or who I consider to be the best, but I do like his take on big blue. It’s the writing that has been giving grief for Superman on the CW. But I believe that will change when he finally gets his own series and stops playing second fiddle as a superhero and is instead promoted to primary superhero for his own show. I think a jobber is a wrestling term. I’m not sure though. I don’t watch wrestling so I could be wrong. I think it refers to a character promoting another’s greatness at the expense of their own greatest. So basically making Supergirl look better than Superman.

Tyler Hoechlin is by far my least favorite of every actor who has ever portrayed Superman in live-action films and tv series. I mean in my opinion he’s ok in the part and I’m willing to watch him as the character but that’s it. Nothing extraordinary or memorable about him but I wish him well. And I admit that when it was first announced way back before season two of Supergirl started that Tyler had been casted as Superman, I was disappointed.I had hoped that maybe Routh would’ve been casted as Superman. Well said! You make great points, and I agree with you. I am guilty of favoring Brandon over Tyler, and Brandon does feel more like Superman to me (perhaps as you said, because he had a movie and is already established), but I think it goes beyond the actors and is more about the suit, for me personally. Hard to imagine two Superman shows on at the same time, but streaming networks like HBO really have a way of separating themselves from the main networks, and if Game of Thrones was any indication, the budget could be huge! I’m not sure whether or not if all of Routh’s Superman’s loved ones returned to him after the crisis. I guess that’s up to interpretation depending on the viewer. I do believe though that the added yellow instead of the black for his symbol indicates that he is no longer living in dark times. And that he’s hopeful again.

We got to see a little more of what Routh could actually do as Superman when he’s out from under Singers vision. Just the change in costume design did wonders. I feel it would be the same for Henry free from Snyder.

Tyler I think will get a real chance to shine if he’s in his own show because there won’t be this concern of him over-shadowing anyone. Also in the next crossover they won’t have the excuse of him not being a hero with a series.

Yes there was muscle suit in Brandon’s SR suit. They showed it in a BTS documentary. I think the “size” of the actor is somewhat proportional to the size of the \S/. Like everyone else, I definitely noticed he seemed “larger” in the crossover compared to his SR time. But Brandon is certainly not flabby now and he definitely wasn’t tiny back then.
